Matthew Vezzani is a 2008 RHP with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Gig Harbor WA, who attends Peninsula HS. He is a nice young pitcher and has a chance to continue to develop as he gets stronger. Presently he has a wiry, lean body type, with some natural room to fill out. His arm action is short on the backside, sort of like a Keith Foulke or Russ Ortiz takeaway. He does get to decent frontside extension, but has a tough time creating much arm speed with that backside arm action. As for his stuff, Vezzani showed fastball (79-81) control and at times got cut action on it. His approach is to pitch to the corners, staying out of the middle. During his outing Vezzani made good adjustments to throw more strikes and that was nice to see. He will need to rely on forcing contact and changing speeds. His curveball (66-67) is big and loopy, with 12/6ish shape. At times he threw it with some depth. Future strength gains and developing some more arm speed and momentum will be keys for Vezzani to devleop into a college level pitcher. He is a very strong student and certainly should get the chance to continue to develop at the four year college level.
