2007 World Showcase
Lawrence Smith is a 2007 OF/P with a 5'11'', 180 lb. frame from Missouri City, TX, who attends Thurgood Marshall HS. Lawrence has an athletic build and showed nice speed (6.99) at the showcase. At the plate Lawrence is more of a contact hitter that will spray the ball some. He needs to get his body much more involved in his swing to drive the ball more. In the outfield Lawrence has solid range and average actions. Lawrence throws from a 3/4 arm slot on the mound and makes hitters put the ball in play. It looked as if Lawrence was either hurt or just holding back when throwing the ball. Lawrence should attract the attention of some smaller colleges.
