Matt England is a 2008 1B with a 5'11'', 180 lb. frame from Santa Cruz CA, who attends Santa Cruz HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. He has a strong, compact build with minimal physical projectability. England earned Top Prospect status with his bat and his ability to perform in game situations. He is clearly strong and handles wood well. He has a short stroke and a quick bat, accelerates through contact and drives the ball to all fields. Presently his power plays as doubles from foul line to foul line and in time he is going to pop a few dingers at the college level. England made consistent barrel contact and is able to keep the bat head in the zone for an extended period of time. His swing and approach are simple and efficient. Defensively he showed good hands and some feel around the bag. He is a solid defensive player, though at 5'11" he is a bit undersized at 1st base. England is an outstanding student and a D1 caliber hitter.
