Kyle (Kaz) Smith is a 2009 C/OF with a 5'11'', 165 lb. frame from Las Vegas, NV, who attends Bishop Gorman HS. Smith is a young player with a medium frame and present strength. Defensively he has good arm action behind the plate with a nice release. Smith had good pop times with a best of 2.06. He sets up well behind the plate, and shows good lateral movement. He is good behind the plate with poise and calls a good game. Offensively he hits from a straight away stance with good swing mechanics. Smith has a short and compact swing with bat speed through the zone. He attacks pitches in the zone and throws the bat head well, and also shows that ability to go the other way well. Currently he has gap power, but has much more to come. Smith is a young player that must be followed.
