LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Kevin Quackenbush is a 2007 right handed pitcher from Jesuit HS, residing in Tampa, FL. He has a great pitcher's body... long, lean, lanky and has a 6'5" 195 lb. frame. His future is bright, brighter than his present day ability. He was ranked #50 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. Quackenbush pitches from an over the top slot and has a loose arm, coupled with a loose wrist. There is a small wrist flip on the back side of his arm stroke but he seemed to come out of it well because of a good delivery that has balance and good timing. He did slightly pull to the 1st base side, taking away some extension, but that can be changed. The ball left Quackenbush's hand with little effort and he has good arm speed. With an 80s fastball that topped at 89 mph, he has plenty of fastball to gain in the coming years. His fastball had decent arm side action that was pretty normal/natural for a right hander. With more velocity will come more action, particularly with a little more extension and holding the ball longer. Quackenbush showed two different breaking balls. One was a 75 mph slider with good spin and the other was a 69-71 mph 11/5 shaped curveball that had good bite. At times the curveball flashed as a power downer. There is life in his arm and spin on his breaking stuff, meaning that his breakers could develop into plus pitches. Quackenbush also showed an 80 mph change-up. He displayed the ability to use his fastball and then the understanding of how to mix with his offspeed stuff. He has a plus build, a loose arm, good arm speed, quality present day repertoire and some pitchability. Pretty good assets to have and it is quite possible to see him shoot up draft lists in the spring.
