Matt Vickers is a 2016 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Rapid City, SD who attends St Thomas More. Lean, athletic frame. Some present strength throughout, body projects future strength. On the mound shows a high 3/4 to overtop arm slot. High, compact arm swing and creates plus downhill plane with fastball. Fastball has big arm side run at times ranging from 80-82 mph. Curveball has 2/7 shape with bite and depth, topped at 71 mph. Quiet mechanics with athletic pace and actions, repeats well. Flashed a changeup at 74 mph, that shows some fading action. Deceptive arm speed that matches fastball. Hides the baseball well and shows ability to move pitches to both edges of the plate. At the plate shows a balanced, straight stance with some hand quickness. Compact line drive swing plane that results in hard contact to all fields. Shows good barrel control and more gap power potential should develop with physical maturity. Swing projects. Also worked at first base showing short arm action on throws with some carry, topped at 78 mph across. Smooth glove work and transitions. Shows some range to both sides with solid footwork while setting up to receive throws. Taller target at 1st. Very athletic, projectable two way next level player. Very good student as well.
