Steven Covelo is a 2008 LHP/1B/OF with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Englewood, CO, who attends Mullen HS. Tall frame with long limbs and present strength. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot who works out of the stretch. Covelo has good arm speed and stays inline and balanced through his delivery. His fastball topped out at 78 mph while working in the 74-78 mph range. He gets arm side run on his fastball. Covelo also mixes in a 1 to 7 curveball at 66 mph with depth that is a knee bender at times, and he also throws a diving change at 66 mph. Showed good control during his outing, and Covelo struck out 5 batters in his 3 innings of work. At first base he showed very nice hands with good feet around the bag showing nice actions. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with solid bat speed from a straight away stance. He likes to get his arms extended on his swing. He is also a good student.
