2003 Sunshine West Showcase
As a catcher with a good strong athletic build, Blackstone can move well behind the plate and showed us good all-around ability. His bat showed well by using a level swing plane with good bat-speed and he hit the ball hard consistently. He demonstrated receiving ability, playable pop times and a good overall approach on both sides of the ball. His receiving style at times was stiff and he presented the ball out of the strike-zone on occasion but he had no trouble handling the new pitchers he saw for the first time. He took some big swings and his bat got better as time went on. The 7.13 he ran in the 60 is above average for the catcher position. His athleticism is an asset for a strong catcher with his ability and we think Colleges need to watch him closely this summer. Good student
