Matt Sommo is a 2006 right handed pitcher/shortstop from Clinton, CT with a good body at 6-1, 175 lbs. He pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with sound mechanics and a good arm action. He has an aggressive pitching style and he goes right at hitters with a closers mentality. His fastball tops at 87 mph with movement and he has more in him. His curveball is sharp at 74 mph with a 10-4 slurve-like break. His change shows decent action at 78 mph. He hits from a tall upright stance with a knee lift trigger. He is very short to the ball with good strength in his hands and good bat speed. He has a nice balanced swing and he shows the potential to hit for power. Defensively, he has a strong accurate arm at 84 mph across the infield. He has very solid tools with a projectable body, and he is a definite high level 2-way prospect.
