2003 South Top Prospect Showcase
Coburn is a 6 foot 1 right-hander who showed an 85-88 mph fastball with some good tailing action and a 69-74 mph curveball out of a good balanced delivery. He threw several change-ups that ranged between 70 and 78 mph. When he kept the quick arm stroke on that change it appeared to be very deceiving. At 195 pounds he has a strong build and got good leverage out of his solid mechanics. He has a fast, powerful arm and has the potential to be a 90+ mph pitcher in short time. Only an "05" he needs to be followed closely. Matt is an excellent student.
