2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Northcutt is a 6-3, 180 lb senior right handed pitcher from Pennsylvania with some present strength and physical maturity. He throws from a balanced and controlled delivery with minimal effort. His arm action is compact and he has a tight 3/4's release point. Northcutt has some back side collapse before his release which leaves him throwing on a flat plane. His fastball was 80-81 mph and he was pitching to spots. His best pitch was a 69-72 mph curveball that had tight spin and good downer break. Northcutt didn't use his curveball very much but it was a quality pitch for him. Northcutt also swung the bat very well at the showcase. He has an aggressive swing with good bat speed and made very hard line drive contact up the middle and to right field. He profiles as a third baseman and is worth watching as a position player as well. Northcutt is an excellent student.
