2005 Sunshine West Showcase
Alexander McKenzie is a 2007 left handed pitcher from Torrey Pines HS in San Diego, CA, with a 6'2", 180 lb. frame. McKenzie has a projectable body with long limbs and a strong lower half. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with solid arm speed, and has a smooth delivery with good balance over the rubber. His fastball topped out at 80 mph with some late tailing movement, and it is easy to think he will throw harder in the future with his long limbs and good arm speed. McKenzie also mixed in a 66 mph curveball with a sharp and late break down in the zone with an 1-7 break. He will also throw a 65 mph change up to right handed hitters with arm side fade. McKenzie looks to be a pitcher with a great deal of upside with his best pitching days to come. He also hit during one of the showcase games and showed solid bat speed with a good weight shift. However, we see his future on the mound and he should be followed. He is also a very good student.
