Gabriel Araujo is a 6'4", 180 lb. left handed pitcher from Brazil who would be a 2003 high school graduate if he lived in the United States. He has an excellent pitcher’s body, with long arms and legs and loose athletic actions. Araujo has some natural arm strength and a long, tension free arm stroke. He threw his fastball 78-82 mph with good riding action up in the zone. Araujo would pick up more velocity immediately if he wasn’t falling off low and hard to the third base side, leaving his shoulder open and losing his plane to the plate. Araujo’s mechanics impact his curveball as much as his fastball, as he doesn’t get over and through it and it ends up at 67 mph with lazy spin. Araujo’s 72 mph change up showed some promise. He is a very interesting sleeper type, with his best years ahead of him. Gabriel has a very good SAT score.
