2003 Spring Showcase
Mason is a senior catcher with the body of a singles hitter but the bat of an RBI leader. He ran a respectable 7.61 in the 60 on a quick track and utilizes his mobiity as much as he can on the field. He can receive with soft hands and block well. His arm is below average but we have seen him for several years we notice the arm strength growing at the same rate as his body. He popped nearly every throw at 2.19 after a 9 inning game the evening before the Midwest showcase and we have seen better from him. His bat is his best tool. The wiry 6 foot, 155 pounder can send the ball a long way with wood. He prefers the bare-handed grip and has a very keen eye. At times, we wonder where the wood power comes from. We have not seen him swing and miss on many balls whether is be a 78 mph fastball or an 81 mph slider. He can hit. The College that signs Mason knows the bat they are getting with him and we think he will contribute with it immediately.
