Like duck, like duckling. (except duckling missed a game) Ducks never were very good at following directions. It's a wonder they ever know how fly south AND manage to return.
Ha- did you see my video of the beaver getting stuck in traffic.. still sore over tuesday? Pretty funny to see our closer go all haywire on you guys. But, I was pretty nervous. Kind of a preview of what is coming up. Can't wait. Sherfs interview was classic. He kept talking about how great he felt. I still liked Madison B as our all time closer thus far

Nope. Not sore at all over Tuesday (other than the usual Yeskie hate). I was okay with our performance and look forward to the Civil War series at Goss. I think we got the ability to take that series as much as y'all do. Course, I'll take the Beavs any day and twice on Sundays.

And I think I missed the beaver stuck in traffic.

Ha- yeah, both teams played well enough to win it. Pretty much a flip of a coin for the finale.

Week 13 pick analysis

Oregon State and Utah open this weekend's play tomorrow at 11am, so anyone not already on board is likely to miss first pitch. Here's the pick analysis. Three teams were unanimous picks:
  • Stanford (11/0, 10 sweeps) over Wazzu.
  • Oregon (11/0, 8 sweeps) over USC.
  • Oregon State (11/0, 7 sweeps) over Utah.
  • Arizona is a close 4th: 10/1 over Cal, with 2 sweeps.
  • The only close series should be the one in Spokane: ASU 6/5 over Gonzaga, with each team getting 1 sweep.

One of the earliest games ever played in a Pac-12 series, to my impaired memory. Beavers face Brock Duke, the older brother of injured Oregon State pitcher Adam Duke. Brock is also married to a gal on the Utah softball team, an apparent high school sweetheart.

And Conforto goes yard in the thin air. Two more RBIs added to his recently sparse total.

B2B homers, Beavers up 3-0. Oregon State greets Brock Duke rudely with four straight one-out hits.

Beavers bat around, sending 11 to the plate, and lead 6-0 after 0.5 innings.

More on the Duke family. From O-Live:

"Adam Duke, whom Casey called one of the best pitchers the team had ever signed, is still working his way back from a shoulder injury and has been at home in Utah for the past few weeks, tending to his ailing mother. The Dukes’ father, Dev, died tragically in 2001 when a fireworks stand he was operating to raise money for his sons’ team, blew over on him during a windstorm."

I think this is Ryan Dunn's seventh homer of the year. And, if I'm not mistaken, all seven have been solo shots.

I totally forgot the Beavs and Utah game started at 11am. I was pleasantly suprised to turn on the radio station and find the Beavs up 6-0 in the bottom of the 3rd.

DM, thanks for the update on Adam Duke. I was wondering what his status was. I saw him pitch last year and was very impressed. As I remember, he throws a heck of a sinker.

Not only does Conforto have a pretty mom, he is a beast. He now has 61 rbi's and 10 homers after a 3-run blast.

Conforto hits another homer, this one a three-run shot. His RBI total and RBI-per-Game total will jump considerably.

Nothing against Utah Valley's Goose Kallunki, but if he's playing in this thin air for half his games and hitting against the thin pitching of the Great West, I can understand his numbers being so high. Conforto hit his RBI slump over 11 straight games against USC, UCLA, Stanford, and Oregon. Five RBIs today, and he's not done yet.

Parker is talking about his season RBI record now. I'm sure we'll hear more about it.

Yeah, same here. I remember he pitched an inning or part of an inning against Vanderbilt in the second game of last year's super regional, after a long rehab from an injury, and I thought, okay, he looks good, should be in good shape next year. But he apparently had some other injury, and that story I quoted...not sure when it came out. I thought it was March timeframe, which means his recovery is taking longer than expected.

Well that Brock versus Adam faceoff that Parker lamented did not happen this year a short distance from the Dukes' hometown might take place next year in Corvallis.

Yeskie goes out to talk to Wetzler? I HOPE he's saying, "I'm gonna let you stay in the game for 8 innings. Keep up the good work."
