Batting Practice Highlights Teams 7-12

1/12/2019

Oliver Bolduc (2021 SS, Larkspur, CO) has a big stride into contact and uses his lower half well to create bat speed and lift.  His right handed swing is loose and strong and projectable.

Josh Algarin (2021 OF, Sunnyvale, CA) is a quick twitch athlete with a short line drive left handed swing.  He made consistent hard pull side line drive contact.

Colten Hesselman (2022 OF, Forest Grove, OR) is a young left handed hitter with a solid athletic build and a short swing that can get the ball to jump.  He's going to keep getting better as he matures physically.

Bryson Hoier (2022 OF, Paso Robles, CA) is another projectable freshman who has some present strength and bat speed and can get the ball to jump, especially when he stays back on the ball and doesn't get too far to his front side at contact.

Jordan Lewis (2022 OF, Mountain House, CA) has very good strength for his age and lots of right handed bat speed.  His big lower half move into contact can create timing issues but when he's on time the ball sailed up the gaps with carry.

Griffen Chewning (2020 2B, Phoenix, AZ) is a local standout who has very good sequencing in his swing and who isn't shy about taking a strong swing and showing his bat speed.  He crushed a few deep to the pull side to show his power.

Eric Markowicz Avila (2021 OF, Alpine, CA) is a 6-2/210 present strong right handed hitter who pretty much just overpowers the ball when he's on time.  He worked the ball deep gap to gap.

Blaze Hill (2020 1B, Livermore, CA) has an athletic and projectable 6-2/195 frame and a nice, rhythmic right handed swing that put him on time and resulted in consistent hard line drive contact, especially to left center field.

Nick Salas (2020 SS, Bakersfield, CA) has a short and crisp right handed swing with good bat speed.  He stays behind the ball well for consistent line drive contact and even showed some lift on his last swing.

Kyree Gatewood (2022 1B, Chandler, AZ) is a long and slender 6-3/170 left handed hitter who is still learning his body and his swing but he has obvious athleticism and projection and drove some balls hard to the right centerfield gap.

Chase Dabbs (2021 LHP, Redlands, CA) was the best hitting primary pitcher of the last six teams, as the 6-2/165 southpaw showed good bat speed and line drive contact with an aggressive swing approach.

Jack Bibb (2020 OF, Newport Beach, CA) had one of the shortest and simplest swing approaches we saw all day and that usually means consistent line drive contact.  At 5-11/170 with some growing strength, the left handed hitter was able to drive some balls hard.

Walter Ahuna III (2020 SS, Hilo, HI) is a Kansas commit and a left handed hitter who has fast hands that can whip the barrel hard, especially when he's staying back and working to the middle of the field.  We hope the young Hawaiian didn't look at the weather today in Kansas.

Safea Mauai (2020 1B, Hilo, HI) is another left handed hitter who made the trip in from Hawaii.  The 6-1/235 slugger has outstanding raw power and the ability to reach the fences in any part of the ball park.  He has chosen to stay at home at play at U. Hawaii.

Omar Monreal (2022 3B, Tucson, AZ): Monreal was extremely impressive, especially as a freshman, showing off loose wrists with extremely fast hands, squaring up the ball consistently and showing off big time young tools.

Dominic Giuffre
(2021 SS, Rio Del Mar, CA): Giuffre had perhaps the best lower half mechanics of the day, really driving his hips through contact and creating more jump off the barrel as a result. He turned in a very consistently-barreled round of BP.

JD Mettham
(2020 C, Phoenix, AZ): Mettham executed a simple, high-contact approach very well, showing off efficient mechanics throughout the swing and finding the barrel consistently on a line.
