Batting Practice Highlights

9/29/2018

A primary third baseman, Patrick Coyne (2020 3B, Randolph, NJ) put together a nice round of batting practice as he showed a short and direct path to the ball. His hands were quick and there was balance throughout his mechanics as he remained linear through the zone with back spin at the point of contact.

While there are some timing mechanisms to his load and swing, John Heltebran (2019 OF, Ashburn, VA) showed the ability to repeat and found the barrel well throughout his round. He’s able to create extension through the point of contact and shows strength in his hands with nice present carry off the barrel.

Kenneth Levari (2020 SS, Vineland, NJ), who is already committed to Old Dominion, had a loud first day of the event at Maryland and it began with his round of batting practice. A lefthanded hitter, Levari shows looseness to his swing with linear swing path and very nice carry of his pull side, already able to impact the baseball while still projecting nicely moving forward.

There were a lot of components to like in Sean Szestowicki's (2019 SS, Mount Royal, NJ) swing as the primary shortstop maintained a short stroke and direct path with his hands while looking to lift the ball at the point of contact. He was able to do just that, showing jump off the barrel to all fields with a loose swing through the zone.

Trey Cruz (2019 3B, Pomona, NY) goes to the plate looking to attack the baseball from the left side, showing plenty of intent through his load and into his swing. Committed to Marist, Cruz shows loose hands in his swing and looks to pull the ball, creating hard line drive contact into right field.

Playing on his future home as he is committed to Maryland, outfielder Troy Schreffler (2019 OF, Harrisburg, PA) put together a nice first day of the event Strongly built, Schreffler showed natural leverage to his swing path with quick hands and he does a nice job of uncoiling into contact showing jump off the barrel frequently.

Eddie Eisert (2020 SS, Fairfax Station, VA) put together a solid round of batting practice from both sides of the plate and continued to show that bat speed in live action. Righthanded, Eisert showed very quick hands and leverage to his swing path with consistent barrel skills, elements that held true in his lefthanded swing as well, showing carry off the barrel.

Trey Burrell (2021 OF, Trussville, AL) showed nice elements in his swing that will only continue to develop as he adds additional strength. There’s present twitch to his swing as he shows nice bat speed and quickness to his hands, staying short with his path and already creating some jump off the barrel to his pull side.

Prior to taking the mound Saturday afternoon, Sebastian Bentz (2020 LHP, Weston, FL) showed his physical strength with his lefthanded swing. Staying short with his swing through the point of contact, Bentz incorporated the strength in his hands as he was able to generate carry and back spin to his pull side.

Sawyer Feller (2020 C, Boca Raton, FL) made the trip up from Florida and he came out attacking the ball during his round of batting practice. Showing plenty of intent from his load through his finish, Feller showed solid present bat speed and was able to impact the baseball hard to his pull side when getting extended out front.

Grant Evans (2019 OF, Milton, DE) has physical strength throughout his 6-foot-2 frame and as he continues to create leverage in his swing path, he’s only going to continue to drive the baseball. At present he stays direct to the ball with a linear swing path, creating jump off the barrel while showing nice bat speed through the zone.

A West Virginia commit, Michael Kluska (2020 SS, White Sulphur Springs, WV) projects well physically with his lean, athletic frame but already shows a nice handle for the barrel and will continue to develop with strength. Staying short to the ball, Kluska was able to repeat his swing while consistently finding the barrel and remaining balanced through the point of contact.

Taylor Johnson (2019 C, Poway, CA) made the trip across the country and the switch-hitting California native showed a nice stroke from both side and particularly fro the right. Committed to Loyola Marymount, Johnson was able to lift the ball at the point of contact, generating carry off the barrel to his pull side while creating extension and remaining balanced.
