Batting Practice Highlights

2/27/2021

Tamden Webb-Tate (2022 C, Ankeny, IA) has an imposing 6'2/220 frame with obvious strength that translates into big power potential in the box. The right-handed hitter has great bat speed and hand quickness; he looks to do damage on every pitch and he doesn't get cheated on his swings.

Matt Merk (2022 C, Lockport, IL) took an impressive round of BP, showing good balance throughout and reaching extension out front consistently. Merk looks to elevate the ball and made plenty of loud contact, showcasing his impact potential and strength in the hands. 

Joey Oakie (2024 RHP, Ankeny, IA) kept a line drive plane and displayed great direction within his swing. The freshman showed a mature approach at the plate, creating solid contact to all parts of the field. 

Maksymilian Pierga (2023 RHP, Barrington, IL) is a free swinger with present strength that looks to pull the ball and create lift at contact. The sophomore can really impact the ball with force when on time and on barrel, and he looks to get extended and make contact out front. 

John Sekich (2022 C, Longmont, CO) starts with a narrow stance and does a great job of shifting his weight forward and using the lower half to drive the ball. He is a high intent swinger that displayed quick hands and the ability to create lift with solid contact all round.

Cavan Jones (2023 RHP, Ankeny, IA) impressed with his ability to makes solid contact to all fields during his round. The strength in his hands really stood out, and his frame projects for more power potential as he continues to develop. 

Brayden Marks (2022 RHP, Elkhorn, WI) has a physically advanced 6'5/220 frame, and looks to catch it out front and drive the ball to his pull side. The right-hander has a middle-of-the-order build with definite strength that translates into big power potential.

Nolan Frasso (2023 C, Winchester, CA) showed real promise with the bat, displaying the ability to stay directional and hit the ball where it was pitched. The sophomore has a compact swing and gets the hands and body into position well. 

Ryan Geraghty (2023 RHP, Mundelein, IL) produced solid line drive contact during his round, utilizing a big knee to knee stride and creating great separation within the swing. He did a good job of driving his hips through and staying directional.

Kaiden Williams (2024 RHP, Aurora, IL) loads the hand deep and utilizes a leg lift trigger, producing loud contact when on time and on barrel. The freshman shows good hand position and consistently reaches extension out front. 


Navy vs Red Game Highlights

Lukas Cheris (2022 C, Glencoe, IL) had a great day in the box, showing a patient approach and strong wrists with jump off the barrel when squared. The right-handed hitter found the barrel early and often in this one, smoking two doubles. 

Matt Merk (2022 C, Lockport, IL) was seeing the ball well today as he flashed his power potential, producing multiple barrels during the game. Merk swings with intent and doesn't get cheated, as he showcased his strength and bat speed.

Joey Oakie (2024 2B, Ankeny, IA) is an exciting young prospect that put together an impressive performance on the mound, sitting 84-86 and topping out at 87 mph. He displayed great feel for a four-pitch mix, and showed the ability to change planes with his breaking ball.

Ryan Wong (2021 RHP, Chicago, IL) struck out three opposing batters and walked just one in two innings of work. The uncommitted senior sat 84-87 mph with heavy cut action, while mixing in a 76 mph curveball that breaks as it crosses the plate.

Dylan Patzfahl (2024 C, Greendale, WI) showed advanced bat control for his age, as he consistently found barrels all game. Patzfahl gets the foot down early and is ready to hit as the pitcher releases the ball. He collected a couple of singles in this one, displaying his quick hands.

Jack Clark (2024 C, Solon, IA) has a strong and athletic build, and put together some solid at bats in this one. Clark flashed his power potential, making contact out front and producing a couple of well-struck hits.

Connor Capece (2023 C, Omaha, NE) showed some promising two-way potential today, putting together a solid performance on the mound and at the plate. He shows quick hands and a direct path to the ball in the box, while running his fastball up to 82 mph on the bump.

Sean Ryniec (2023 C, Downers Grove, IL) made solid contact in his last at bat, showing great extension through the swing. On the mound, he sat 76-78 mph and used his curveball early and often, displaying late bite with the ability to add to subtract speed.

Maksymilian Pierga (2023 RHP, Barrington, IL) put together a dominating start for the Red team, striking out the side in each of his innings and not allowing a single walk. The large-framed sophomore sat 82-85 mph with two different breakers and excellent command. 

Brayden Marks (2022 RHP, Elkhorn, WI) was impressive in his two innings of work, striking out five opposing hitters and walking none. Marks sat 85-88 mph with big time arm side run and present arm speed. He has a slider and a changeup in his arsenal, and he tunnels them very well.

Ryan Hussey (2023 RHP, Mokena, IL) threw a quick and efficient inning, striking out two and walking one. The Notre Dame commit sat 86-88 mph with a short arm action that comes through clean and fast. He utilized a clean and fluid operation that projects very well. 

Carson Knebel (2022 RHP, Bettendorf, IA) flashed his swing and miss potential in this one, striking out five in two innings of work. The long and lanky junior sat 81-83 mph, and featured a 12/6 curveball and a changeup with fade.

Gold vs Green Game Highlights

Ryan Geraghty (2023 RHP, Mundelein, IL) Displayed a loose, repeatable three-quarters arm slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly showing good feel for each edge of the plate topping at 86 mph. Matches arm speed very well with both curveball and changeup offering. Curveball showed 11/5 shape with tight spin and late depth in the upper 60's. Also impressed offensively showing a short, compact stroke to contact. Displayed present bat speed with the feel to work to all fields. 

Jack Nelson (2022 C, Leawood, KS) The 2022 grad showed good balance in his swing with present strength at contact. Looked to attack the baseball with intent while working to the middle of the field. Generated loud, hard contact when on time and squared. 

John Sekich (2022 C, Longmont, CO) Threw hands well through the zone generated solid bat speed through extension. Utilized a naturally leveraged barrel plane that generated tight back spin off the barrel when squared. 

Joseph "JD" Rodriguez (2022 RHP, Corona, CA) Employed a smooth, fluid delivery from a three-quarters arm slot. Created good direction to the plate with lower half. Fastball produced solid downhill tilt through the zone in the low to mid 80's, topped at 84 mph. Also flashed late depth with a 12/6 breaking ball in the upper 60's. Effectively changed speeds and kept hitters off balance. 

Austin Henry (2022 RHP, Dell Rapids, SD) Released from an overtop arm slot that produced very good downhill tilt with a fastball that topped at 89 mph. Fastball generated heavy life through the zone that jumped on hitters well. Very tight 12/6 breaking ball with late, hard depth to the bottom of the zone in the mid 70's. Consistently missed barrels with each offering while on the mound.

Andrew Boeser (2021 RHP, Shoreview, MN) Hides baseball well at take back and showed a quick arm through extension. Fastball created good jump through the zone sitting in the mid to upper 80's, topped at 88 mph.  Displayed plus command for a slider, curveball and changeup offering each in the mid to upper 70's. Consistently changed speed regardless of count and induced weak contact.

Kaden O'Toole (2022 C, Broomfield, CO) Displayed a balanced approach at the plate and kept hands inside the baseball well at contact. Consistently barreled the baseball showing the bat head control to work to all fields. Also showed the ability to stay on all pitch types while maintaining balance at the plate.

Nathan Quimby (2022 C, San Ramon, CA) The California native displayed present bat speed with good strength at contact. Stays behind the baseball well and creates good barrel extension out front. Baseball jumped off barrel with authority when squared.

Mason Koch (2022 RHP, Omaha, NE) The Nebraska native employed a smooth, controlled delivery while on the mound. Located fastball well to all parts of the zone in the mid to upper 80's, topped at 88 mph. Displayed plus control for each of his off speed offerings. Matches arm speed very well with a sinking changeup in the mid 70's. Also created sharp, late tilt with a 10/5 slider in the upper 70's. Consistently challenged hitters with all pitches and effectively missed barrels. 

Anson Seibert (2024 RHP, Overland Park, KS) has an imposing 6-foot-7, 226-pound frame that is easy to project upon. The freshman showed advanced arm strength and speed, sitting 86-88 mph with an extremely short arm action. He also flashed a 12/6 curveball with late bite and a changeup that he tunneled well.
