Game Highlights Gold vs Orange

9/29/2019

Kevin Duran (2021 SS, Cleburne, TX) collected two extra-base hits with a double and a pull side homerun to left field in a two-for-three day at the plate. He showed consistent defensive skills throughout the infield and is a gritty and athletic player with solid physical skills.

Jack Beiter (2021 C, Austin, TX) collected a pair of RBI on a hard lined double down the right field line as part of a one-for three day at the plate. Has a pull-side approach at the plate and showed the ability to get his swing off consistently.

Michael Fontenot (2020 3B, Kinder, LA) tallied a three-for-four day at the plate with a single, a double and a triple to deep right field in his final at-bat of the day. He shows leverage in his swing and pop through the gaps to both sides of the plate.

Josh Blum (2021 RHP, Bellaire, TX) worked three innings on the mound with fastball up to 86 that stayed out of the middle of the plate. Repeated his delivery well and completed his outing without surrendering a run. Also turned in a one-for three day at the plate with a hard single through the left side and a run scored.

Michael Perales (2020 SS, San Antonio, TX) showed tremendous versatility on the defensive side of the ball all weekend. Highlighted by a full length diving catch down the line in right field and a catch on a foul pop deep down the left field line from his shortstop position. Has a knack for making plays in the field from the routine to the spectacular.

Zachery Mack (2021 1B, Manvel, TX) sat between 84-87 mph in two innings on the mound collecting a pair of strikeouts with a delivery that has some deception by hiding the ball really well. Creates plane and slight arm side run on his fastball to both halves of the plate.

Game Highlights Royal vs Maroon

9/29/2019

Austin Green (2020 SS, Diana, TX) worked with a clean arm action while pounding the zone with a fastball that sat between 85-88 mph. Green has some athletic ability and it translates well to the mound with a consistent and repeatable delivery. Green used both a slider and curveball over his two innings on the mound, showing the ability to land both while picking up a pair of strikeouts and not allowing a run.

Christopher Kean (2020 C, Harlingen, TX) collected a pair of hits, including a RBI-double to right-centerfield in which he stayed inside the ball well and created leverage and lift to the opposite side. With an extremely projectable build, that could easily hold more weight Kean shows more promising development. He also worked an inning on the mound with a fastball that sat between 84-86 mph and collected three strikeouts with a lower effort delivery.

Jonathan Sisk (2021 OF, Conroe, TX) posted a perfect day with three hits in as many at-bats, most notably a RBI-double that was crushed to deep left field in his second trip to the plate. Sisk handles the barrel of the bat well and created consistently hard contact with gap power to the pull side.

Brandon Bishop (2021 OF, College Station, TX) turned in a two-for-three day at the plate with a line drive single to centerfield and a solid double down the left field line. Bishop showed the ability to square balls up consistently with a simple short swing and contact approach at the plate.

Matthew Houston (2022 C, Longview, TX) tallied a pair of hits in three at-bats, with a double to left centerfield and a RBI-single to centerfield in his final at-bat, Houston displayed that he can consistently barrel the ball at the plate. He shows strength and jump off the bat with more power to come.

Zac Addkison (2020 RHP, San Antonio, TX) was two-for-three at the plate with a pair of singles adding to his impressive work on the mound from Saturday. Addkison has present strength at the plate and works with a predominately pull side power approach at the plate.

Nick Bell (2021 RHP, Baytown, TX) worked three innings on the mound with a fastball that reached 87-mph and picked up four strikeouts without allowing a run. Bell shows the ability to repeat his delivery and stays around the zone with both a curveball and changeup in the low-to-mid seventies.

Robert (Chase) Shores (2022 RHP, Midland, TX) shows a tremendous amount of projectablity from a 6-foot-6 in frame and long limbs on the mound. He displayed some flashes, with heavy boring arm-side run on his fastball and the ability to land an 11-to-5 shaped curveball with some later down action. Shores will need some more experience and polish but he shows some higher ceiling projection.

Batting Practice Highlights

9/28/2019

Sam Canales (2020 C, Corpus Christi, TX) has nice quick hands at the plate from the right side and made consistent hard line drive contact.  He starts his hands low and on plane and stays on plane for a long time while working the middle of the field.

Gabriel Flores (2022 OF, Longview, TX) has a young athletic build and does a very good job of using his hips and lower half to help generate bat speed.  He's got to get stronger to have real impact on the ball but it's a good swing and he's been a very good hitter at PG age group events this summer and fall.

Tanner Dieleman (2020 3B, Krum, TX) is a present strong 6-1/190 switch-hitter with bat speed and strength at contact from both sides of the plate.  His left handed swing is a bit smoother but he might have more strength when he squares it up from the right side.

Matthew Houston (2022 C, Longview, TX) is very strong for a 2022 at 6-1/200 and really gets into his hips well to generate bat speed.  His shift into contact is simple and repeatable and he made consistent hard pull contact with lots of carry up the left centerfield gap.

Jason Hawkins (2021 C, Allen, TX) was  very well timed up from the first pitch and got to show his bat speed and ability to drive the ball well.  There weren't any home runs hit at Olson Field during BP but Hawkins came close with a long drive off the top of the left field fence.

Christopher Kean (2020 C, Harlingen, TX) was another of the many catchers who showed well in batting practice and at 6-4/190 the right handed hitter has lots of natural leverage in his swing that produces power and carry off the barrel.

Creed Willems (2021 C, Aledo, TX) probably hit the ball harder than anyone at the event when you combine batting practice and the games.  The big and burly left handed hitter squared up just about everything and he showed both power and swing balance/flexibility.

Robert (Chase) Shores (2022 RHP, Midland, TX) didn't pitch on Saturday but the long 6-6/190 right hander did show ability with the bat.  He has a significantly short and direct swing for his size and his leverage and extension give him big carry when he gets the ball in the air.

Kevin Duran (2021 MIF, Cleburne, TX) has a very aggressive approach at the plate and really swings the bat with intent and present bat speed.  It's easy to wonder if such an aggressive swing will work in games but Duran took some really good swings with hard contact in the games as well.

Game Highlights Orange vs Royal

9/28/2019

Kevin Duran (2021 MIF, Cleburne, TX) had a solid day all around with an aggressive style of play and approach at the plate with a ringing double in his first at-bat and three stolen bases on the day. Shows jump in the barrel and the ability to stay on pitches.

Zachery Mack (2021 1B, Manvel, TX) shows present strength in the swing and can be really short to the ball when needed. Collected two hits in three at-bats with a deep double off the left field wall in his final attempt of the day.

Clenard Griffin III (2020 SS, Willis, TX) showed solid barrel skills with a pair of singles in three at-bats. Griffin moves well and has plenty of athletic ability to go with solid speed on the bases.

Kaden Calkins (2020 RHP, Aurora, TX) repeated his delivery which produced a fastball up to 90-mph with riding life. Calkins shows room to fill in his solid frame and a loose arm to compliment it.

Victor Loa (2021 LHP, Los Fresnos, TX) continues to show advanced pitchability with easy, clean and repeatable mechanics. Loa reached his fastball up to 86-mph and landed both off-speed pitches in any count. Struck out five over three innings while allowing only one hit.

Calin Knight (2020 RHP, Montgomery, TX) used a solid fastball, up to 90-mph, and a slider he landed in virtually any count, to collect eight strikeouts and allow only one hit in three innings of work on the mound. He pounds the strike zone with a repeatable delivery that reaches extension through release.

Cayden Hardy (2021 RHP, Hockley, TX) worked up to 88-mph with arm side run and sink on his two seamer, while also landing a small curveball consistently in the strike zone. Hardy recorded five strikeouts in three innings of work on the mound.

Game Highlights Gold vs Maroon

9/28/2019

Zac Addkison (2020 RHP, San Antonio, TX) repeats his delivery well and commands the zone to both sides of the plate. His physical build has present strength and enough flexibility to reach extension through release. Worked his fastball up to 92-mph but also shows heavy arm-side with a two seamer at 88-mph. Commands three pitches and competes well in the strike zone collecting eight strikeouts in three innings of work.

Hunter Dyck (2020 RHP, Dallas, TX) uses a short takeaway and extension through finish to create a heavy fastball with arm-side run. Stays out of the middle of the plate and creates soft contact through movement. His fastball sat 86-89 mph, allowing two hits over three innings of work.

Braedyn Cunningham (2022 RHP, Lantana, TX) showed real life on his fastball, which topped at 87-mph, from a short and compact takeaway. His hand speed is above average for his class and has a body that shows room to fill out. Worked two innings, allowing a single hit and struck-out two.

Matthew Houston (2022 C, Longview, TX) collected a pair of hits in three at-bats, including a well-struck line drive single to left-centerfield in his second at-bat. The 2022 grad showed the ability to consistently find the barrel and take competitive at-bats.

Gabriel Flores (2022 OF, Longview, TX) turned in a two-for-three day at the plate with a hard line drive single to left field and a solid piece of hitting with another single to right field on a pitcher's pitch in his final at-bat. The athletic Flores threw well in the workouts and the skills translated into live game action.

Brandon Bishop (2021 OF, College Station, TX) managed a pair of hits in a two-for-three effort at the plate, including a RBI-single through the middle in his first at-bat and beat out an infield hit in his second at-bat.

Landry Kyle (2020 SS, Oklahoma City, OK) finished one-for-two with a well struck triple to deep right-centerfield. Showed carry to the gaps in batting practice with extension out front and followed it up with similar production in the game.
