Southeast Top Prospect Games Batting Practice Blog

8/17/2019

Matthew Omohundro (2021 3B, Dothan, AL) started off batting practice with a bang as he drove the first pitch he saw over the left field fence. He flashed mature strength while showing big bat speed getting his hands extended. Keep an eye on him as he will fill out his larger frame down the road and continue to grow into an even bigger power threat with him already flashing light pole tower power,

Collin Reuter (2021 C, Olive Branch, MS) flashed a very large frame with the hand eye to go with it. With a slight bat wrap, he went on to show big time power with a gap to gap type approach. He showed he could create some leverage with the lower half leading the way as he went on to blast one late in his round well over the fence.

Jim Brown (2020 1B, Bremen, GA) stood out in a big way physically with his 6' 4'' frame and already filled out build. He showed a very balanced look at the plate with a quiet, simple swing as he went on to find the barrel consistently. Brown showed a linear swing path to the baseball getting his hands extended as he punished the baseball going gap to gap.

Chase Allsup (2021 RHP, Dothan, AL) proved he could swing the stick legitimately at the next level from both sides of the plate. He took a similar approach from both sides as he was creating leverage while trusting his hands, throwing them at the baseball. He went on to create some loud contact while showing a slightly uphill swing path driving the ball in the gaps.

Kavares Tears (2021 OF, Lewisburg, TN) very well could have taken the best round of batting practice during the event. The smooth swing lefty created advanced type separation before flashing big time bat speed. With a slightly uphill swing path, he drove the baseball out of the park with ease while showing he could also simplify and knock it into the other gap. Tears proved to have total control of the barrel throughout his round.

Brayden Sanders (2021 RHP, Olive Branch, MS) flashed a very balanced look while really utilizing the lower half here in the swing. In the middle of his round, he popped off and drove one that cleared the trees behind left field. With his balanced look, he showed that he can drive the baseball on a line back up the middle as well making him a complete all around bat in the line up.

Ozzie Pratt (2021 SS, Oxford, MS) proved to have some of the best hands of the evening as he showed a short to it, long through type swing. He brought his fast twitch type play to the plate as he showcased he could get his hands out front driving the baseball all over the field on a line. He made loud contact throughout the round showing no flaws in his swing.

Wesley Hancock (2020 LHP, Griffin, GA) put on a show as he went on to bang it off the scoreboard and spray the baseball to all fields. He showed a slightly uphill swing path while he had complete control of the barrel. The big left-handed hitter got the barrel extended and made loud contact throughout his round.

Jonathan Ponder (2020 OF, Lawrenceville, GA) utilized his extremely athletic build to barrel up baseballs during his round. With a linear swing path, he went on to show gap to gap type pop while getting extended. He also showed flashes of pull side pop as he went deep to left field. His hands impressed the most as he threw them at the barrel with authority.

Jackson Brown (2020 C, Marietta, GA) used a lankier type frame to create some leverage as his lower half strength showed to be mature. With an uphill swing path, he drove the baseball out of the park with ease. His hands were strong through the baseball as he barreled it up all round driving it gap to gap. He also has plenty of room to fill down the road which projects well with his bat already being a plus.

Wills Anderson (2022 OF, Suwanee, GA) flashed a slight hands drop into a linear swing path before creating some very loud contact. He let the baseball get deep showing a middle away type approach while using his lower half to create bat speed and leverage. He also finished his round with a light pole high homer that had heads turned.

Treylen "TJ" White (2021 OF, Moore, SC) The switch hitter showed much better from the left side as he got extended driving the baseball to all parts of the ball park. He also made some loud contact driving the baseball deep into the pull side gap showing more in the tank. Look for him to continue to grow from the right side as well as he showed a good feel for it.

Jay Thomason (2020 3B, Auburn, AL) showed a simple approach with a very advanced feel for the barrel. He made loud contact after loud contact spraying the baseball on a line to all fields. When he got extended, he showed he could drive the baseball for power as well. With his balanced swing, he showed no holes in the swing.

Braden Bamburowski (2021 LHP, Cumming, GA) flashed a great feel for the bat head and timing as well. He was balanced throughout making contact out front and barreling them up as well. He showed gap to gap type power with bat speed being present. He found the sweet spot consistently while showing he could drive it all over the ball park.

Bogan Simmons (2022 C, Fayetteville, GA) was one of the best switch hitters in the event with a great feel for it from both sides of the plate. From the left side, he showed a short, simple swing making consistent contact with a middle away approach. From the right side, he proved he could get extended while going deep into the woods to the pull side. He made consistent contact from both sides with a relaxed approach and good feel for the barrel.

Joseph Eichelberger (2020 RHP, McDonough, GA) showed some mature strength during his round with big bat speed being present. He got extended making contact out front as he showed a pull side type approach. In the middle of his round, he drove one very deep into the gap that crashed into the wall. He created must see loud contact during his round.

Ian Kennedy (2020 1B, Douglasville, GA) flashed a huge 6' 3" frame with a physical presence. He put that frame to use as he punished baseballs throughout his round. With a slightly uphill swing path, he showed he could drive the baseball out of the ballpark on a consistent basis. He went on to hit a few jaw dropping shots that left the field still going up. The ball just sounded different coming off his barrel.

Cameron Foster (2020 SS, Douglasville, GA) proved he had some pop in the barrel as he went on to go deep to the pull side with ease. He showed a slight bat wrap before getting extended with plus bat speed. He also cut the swing down a bit and showed he could barrel it up on a line to all parts of the field. Foster flashed a great feel for the barrel making consistent contact.

Southeast vs Georgia

8/18/2019

He got a lot of swing and misses today.

Nate Shipley (2020 OF, Marietta, GA) had a loud day with the bat today with 3 hits including a double. Ball comes off his barrel well.

Carson Howard (2021 RHP, Pike Road, AL) was up to 87 mph today

East vs Atlanta

8/18/2019

Kruise Newman (2021 RHP, Richmond, KY) was lights out today at Southeast Top Prospect Games in two absolutely dominant innings. He faced only 7 batters with the only baserunner reaching via error running his fastball up to 90 mph and commanding an upper 70s breaking ball as he punched out 4 in his two innings. Easy arm action with very little effort and projects very well moving forward and expect the Tennessee commit to create draft interest in 2021.

Max Luke (2020 RHP, Suwanee, GA) worked a perfect inning today quickly retiring the side using a fastball that was 84-85 mph today.

Jackson Brown (2020 C, Marietta, GA) has impressed with the bat all weekend and showed good feel for the barrel today with quick hands and drilled a 3B.

Treylen "TJ" White (2021 OF, Moore, SC) continued to impress with his bat and showed he could handle velo while facing upper 80's to low 90s he hammered a line drive the other way for a single.

Jaylen Paden (2020 RHP, Lilburn, GA) again showcased his lightning quick arm at the PG Southeast Top Prospect Games running his fastball up to 91 mph. HE got some ugly swing and misses with both his fastball and a filthy 81-83 mph change which might be his best pitch. Also used an upper 70s slider that shows potential.

Bogan Simmons (2022 C/RHP, Fayetteville, GA) has once again showcased his high level two way ability at the PG Southeast Top Prospect Games as today he got on the mound and pounded the zone with his fastball that sat 86-88 mph.

Cameron Foster (2020 SS, Douglasville, GA) just missed a HR hammering a double off the top of the left center field wall today. Big power potential and it already plays in games

8/17/2019

Jonathan Ponder (2020 OF, Lawrenceville, GA) had a great day for the Georgia Team as he went for 3-4 today with a 3B and ran a 6.57 60 today. Found his barrel all today and the recent Georgia State commit should make immediate impact at the next level.

Logan McGuire (2021 RHP, Acworth, GA) showed swing and miss stuff today as he struck out 5 in 3 IP and didn't allow a run. FB was up to 90 mph with a fast arm and the Cincinnati commit continues to bet better each time we see him.

Travis Smith (2021 RHP, Walton, KY) was outstanding today as he struck out 5 in 3 innings today sitting 87-91 mph with plenty more in his 6'4 frame. Kept hitters off balance with a quality curveball that he was able to throw for strikes. Kentucky commit is going to be a lot of fun to follow the next couple of years.

Atlanta vs Southeast

8/17/2019

Chase Allsup (2021 RHP, Dothan, AL) showed electric stuff today filling the zone with his 88-92 mph and sharp biting slider that was up to 82. The Auburn commit struck out 5 in his 2 innings today showing a very fast arm and will be a 2021 name to know moving forward.

Brayden Sanders (2021 RHP, Olive Branch, MS) showed big power in BP today but really stood out on the mound today as he faced only 6 batters in his 2 innings while striking out 2. The Ole Miss commit filled up the zone with his 90 mph fastball while mixing in his breaking ball at the right times and was dominant today.

Barbecue Yee (2021 RHP, Falmouth, ME) showed interesting two way ability today with quick hands and ball came off his barrel well as he went 2-3 with a 2B. He then got on the mound and filled the strike zone striking out 4 in 2 innings of work running his fastball up 87 mph with a quality curveball and good fell for his change.

Cole Smith (2020 SS, Conyers, GA) has impressed today at Southeast Top Prospect games showing smooth actions in the IF, swing it well in BP and made solid in game contact even if he didn't have anything to show for it. Uncommitted infielder who will make some college coach happy at the next level

Breon Horne (2021 OF, College Park, GA) continues to impress this summer and after a strong showing in BP today he drilled a double in the game. Switch hitter and bat really projects.

Jerry Burkett II (2020 LHP, Hattiesburg, MS) reached base all 3 times today and bat projects well as he continues to add strength.

Collin Reuter (2021 C, Olive Branch, MS) showed big power in BP launching a ball into the trees at East Cobb on his final swing and then showed it during the games with a double the other way.

Jim Brown (2020 1B, Bremen, GA) is an impressive hitter that showed big power in BP and then followed it up going 2-2 in game action. Ball jump off his barrel and he shouldn't be uncommitted for long. Big potential with bat.

Nick Brown (2020 RHP, Madison, AL) continued an impressive summer tossing two scoreless today running his fastball up to 90 mph. Was up to 93 mph at PG National is one of the top uncommitted 2020 RHPs in the country.
