South Florida Elite Squad Black took home their first ever 16u WWBA title with a 8-0 win over the Orlando Scorpions. Tournament MVP Zach Collins (2013, Flanagan HS, Pembroke Pines, FL) continued his torrid playoff hitting, ripping a pair of doubles and driving in three runs. 3B CJ Chatham (2013, Nova HS, Fort Lauderdale, FL) homered for the second straight game and OF Stephen Kerr (2013, Coral Springs Charter, Margate, FL) went 3-3, driving in a run. Elite Squad RHP Cory Garrastazu (2013, Barbara Goleman, Pembroke Pines, FL) threw a three-hit shutout topping out at 84 with loose, easy arm action and good feel for a a 66 mph curveball.

Three pitchers threw for the Scorpions with RHP Robbie Barrett (2013, Dr. Phillips HS, Orlando, FL) running his fastball up to 81 with good command of a 73 mph curve and 73 mph change. RHP Gunnar McNeil (2013, West Orange HS, Gotha, FL) was next on the mound and was at 85 with his fastball as well as showing good bat speed and strength at the plate. LHP Andrew Gross (2013, Bishop Moore HS, Orlando, FL) topped at 82 in his two innings of work complimenting his fastball with a 69 mph curveball and 73 mph changeup.

South Florida Elite Squad 16u Black pounded 16 hits in their 11-5 win over the Houston Banditos Black to move on to the championship game where they will take on the Orlando Underclass Purple. C Zach Collins (2013, Flanagan HS, Pembroke Pines, FL) continued a great tournament with three hits and a pair of RBIs and 3B CJ Chatham (2013, Nova HS, Fort Lauderdale, FL) homered. RHP Matt Hardy (2013, West Broward HS, Pembroke Pines, FL) and LHP Steven Goldberg (2013, Pinecrest Prep, Fort Lauderdale, FL) combined to give up just five hits. Hardy topped at 81 with a 66 mph curve and Goldberg was up to 80 with a 61 mph curve and 61 mph change.

Banditos great tourney run ended as LHP Bryce Dorn (2012, Boerne Champion, San Antonio, TX) topped out at 88 with a 73 mph curve and 73 mph change. RHP Robie Rojas (2013, Jersey Village, Houston, TX) was up to 86, and RHP Jonathon Tripp (2012, Klein HS, Spring, TX) was up to 85. OF Nick Buckner (2013, North Shore HS, Houston, TX) had a huge tournament and shows one of the quickest bats and power potential in the 2013 class.

Tanner Renegar (2013, RHP, Island Coast HS, Cape Coral, FL) threw 4 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Renegar has a short arm action, works fast, changes speeds well, with armside run on his fastball, has good command of his curveball with good depth to it and he uses it as an out pitch.

Michael Goss (2012, C, Cartersville HS, Cartersville, GA) went 1-2 in the game with 1 run scored, 1 RBI, and 1 Home Run in the game to lead the East Cobb Titans on offense in the loss. Goss has a balanced swing, strong wrists with flick, has good bat speed, is a gap to gap hitter, with raw power and power potential.

With a 6-3 win the Orlando Scorpions Underclass Purple moved on to the semifinals of the 16u WWBA. The Scorpions scored three in the 3rd and three more in the 4th to win in come from behind fashion. RHP Andrew Ward (2013, Oviedo, FL HS) topped at 89, continuing a great tournament with a complete game win. Ward topped at 89, also showing a 74 mph curveball. He has a loose arm with quick, short arm action and good command of both pitches.

The Juice run ended as SS Richie Martin (2012, Bloomingdale HS, Mount Dora, FL) and 2B George Ragsdale (2012, North Port, FL HS) again stood out with their athleticism and defensive actions as well as their short, quick swings at the plate.

Christian Hicks (2014, SS, Bolles HS, St. Augustine, FL) went 2-2 with an RBI single in the third to score the only run in the game. Hicks has an athletic projectable frame with a leadoff hitter’s mentality at the plate.

Justin Smith (2014, OF, Bartram Trail HS, St. Johns, FL) was 1-3 in the game to help CBC Riverhawks to their win as well. Smith has a strong lower half, with a large athletic projectable frame, a live bat, is a linedrive contact hitter, with impact speed on the bases.

South Florida Elite Squad Black got a great pitching performance from RHP Wyatt Hawes (2013, Highlands Christian, Pompano, FL) as they moved on to the semifinals with a 2-0 win over Excel Blue Sox. Hawes allowed just three hits while topping out at 83, complimenting his fastball with a 67 mph curveball and 74 mph change.

Excel Blue Sox RHP Frazier Taylor (2012, Oxford, AL HS) threw a complete game striking out six while topping at 81 in a losing cause.

Billingsley sat at 84-86mph with his fastball topping out at 87mph with his curveball touching 69mph and his changeup topping out at 80mph. Billingsley has an athletic frame, an arm that works well, a quick arm, deceptive delivery, life on his fastball, a good curveball that has an 11-5 break to it, with a good fastball and a low 3/4 arm angle. At the plate Billingsley went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, and 1 stolen base. Billingsley has a quick bat, short compact swing, with a lead-off hitter’s mentality at the plate.

Cheyne Bickel (2013, RHP, Dwyer HS, North Palm Beach, FL) sat at 84-86mph with his fastball topping out at 88mph with his curveball topping out at 71mph and his changeup touching 79mph. Bickel has a solid arm action, a high 3/4 arm angle, an arm that works well, and a good fastball.

Brett Hanewich (2013, RHP, IMG Academies HS, Bradenton, FL) sat at 87-89mph while topping out at 89mph on his fastball with his slider touching 75mph. Hanewich has a large athletic projectable frame, shows control of both sides of the plate, has good command, effectively pitches inside, an arm that works well, gets good extension out front, a quick arm, good mound presence, a balanced smooth online delivery, with sound mechanics, his fastball has riding life, with good depth to his slider, and a 3/4 arm angle.

The Houston Banditos moved on to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over the CBC Riverhawks. RHP Francisco Pena (2013, Lamar HS, Richmond, TX) threw all five innings for the Banditos allowing just one hit, striking out six while walking two. Pena topped out at 87 and also showed threw three breaking balls: a 72 mph curve with 11/5 break, a slider at 75, and a 76 mph change. SS Jake Jarvis (2014, Klein Collins HS, Spring, TX) pitched earlier in the day and showed quick swing actions and good defensive tools at SS.

Michael Goss (2012, C, Cartersville HS, Cartersville, GA) went 2-4 with 1 run scored, 3RBI'S and 1 double in the game for the East Cobb Titans 16U including the Game Winning hit in the 8th inning. Goss is a large athletic projectable frame, with good bat speed, and is a middle of the order run producer.

Nathan Helvey (2012, RHP, Fort Mill HS, Fort Mill, GA) sat at 87-89mph on his fastball while topping out at 89mph with a curveball touching 69mph, a slider touching 72mph, and a changeup topping out at 76mph. Helvey has a large athletic projectable frame with a good fastball and a good feel for his curveball.

Tyler Knowles (2012, RHP, Charlotte HS, Punta Gorda, FL) went 7 strong innings, while giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 0 walks, and 11 strike outs. Knowles has an arm that works well, pitches downhill, gets good extension out front, with a quick arm, sets up hitters, changes speeds, has a good mound presence, he has plan on the mound, works fast, stays tall on the backside, with a balanced delivery, sound mechanics, life on his fastball, good command of his 11-5 break on his curveball, and has good depth to his curveball. Knowles had his fastball topping out at 87mph while sitting at 84-86mph with his curveball touching 71mph, and his slider topping out at 78mph.

Tom Eng (2012, RHP, Troy Athens HS, Troy, MI) topped out at 87mph with his fastball sitting at 81-85mph, his curveball topping out at 68mph, with a slider that was touching 79mph, and a changeup that was 71mph. Eng throws strikes, has an arm that works well, with a quick arm, competes on the mound, works fast, has a smooth online balanced delivery, with sound mechanics, armside run on his fastball, his curveball has an 11-5 break to it, and uses a low 3/4 arm angle.

Ryan Larson (2013, OF, Dr. Phillips HS, Orlando, FL) went 1-2 with 1 run scored, 3 RBI'S and 1 Home Run in the game for the Orlando Scorpions Underclass Purple team to lead them to victory. Larson has a large projectable athletic frame, with raw power, power potential, drives the ball with regular contact, and has a live bat.

Zach Krider (2013, 3B, Lake Brantley HS, Longwood, FL) went 2-2 with 1 run scored, and 1 RBI in the game to help the Scorpions on offense. Krider has a strong projectable frame, with raw power, and power potential.

Vinnie Rosace (2013, LHP, Lake Mary HS, Lake Mary, FL) had his fastball topping out at 86mph while sitting at 83-85mph with his curveball touching 71mph, a slider topping out at 76mph, and his changeup topping out at 73mph. Rosace is a crafty lefty, with a loose long arm action, an arm that works well, has a good changeup, with a high 3/4 arm angle.

Charlie Yorgen (2013, SS, St. Christopher's HS, Richmond, VA) went 1-4 in the game with 1 run scored, and a stolen base for the Richmond Braves. Yorgen has good instincts, with an athletic projectable frame, takes a leadoff hitter mentality to the plate, and is a linedrive contact hitter. In the field Yorgen has soft sure hands, good fielding actions, has an accurate arm, with a quick release.

Austin Nicely (2013, LHP, Spotswood HS, Grottoes, VA) had his fastball sitting at 84-86mph with his fastball topping out at 87mph with his slider topping out at 78mph. Nicely has good hip rotation, gets good extension out front, has an arm that works well, with a high 3/4 arm angle.

RHP Jake Jarvis (2014, Klein Collins HS, Spring, TX) threw six innings, striking out four while walking two in the Houston Banditos 3-2 win over Houston Heat. Jarvis sat 87-89 and topped out at 90 after running his fastball up to 91 at PG Jr. National last month. Jarvis is also a top position prospect that shows good bat speed and strength at the plate. His curveball was at 75 with solid break.

East Cobb Titans 16u RHP/IF/C Chad Mabini (2012, St. Pius X HS, Ga.) had his second consecutive complete game victory in the tournament, this time shutting down the Palm Beach PAL 16u in the playoffs.  Mabini pitched efficiently, throwing strikes and allowing only 3 hits while striking out 6 over 7 innings.  He has a loose arm with the ability to run, cut and sink his 77-83/86 mph fastball.  He also looked comfortable throwing a 66-73 slider.

RHP Alex Stettner (2012, American Heritage HS, Fla.) started opposite Mabini, showing outstanding arm seed to easily produce 85-88 mph fastballs while dropping in quite a few true 12-to-6 68-71 curveballs.

Left-handed hitting catcher Zack Colllins (2013, Flanagan HS, Fla.) had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run, 3 RBI and 1 run scored as the South Florida Elite Squad 16u Black knocked off the East Cobb Astros 14u team 12-5.  Collins is the 86th 2013 player, and has committed to play for Miami.  At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, Collins has excellent present-day strength with exciting bat speed and overall power potential.

RHP Dean Pelman (2013, Cypress Bay HS, Fla.) showed the best arm strength in the game, throwing 78-85/88.  He did a good job throwing strikes over 5 innings of work in relief, giving up only 3 hits.

East Cobb Astros 14u C/RHP Tyler Stephenson (Kennesaw Mountain HS, Ga.) shows outstanding arm strength both on the mound and behind the plate for a 2015 grad, and an athletic, projectable 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame.  He worked a scoreless inning and went 1-for-4 at the plate as the team's 3-hole hitter.

Power arms were on display as Marucci Ark-La-tex defeated DBAT Mustangs-Sharp 4-3.

Marucci Ark-La-tex starter RHP Ryan Leone (2013, Calvary Baptist Academy, La.) struck out 5 in the first 5 innings, using a 84-89 fastball and a handful of promising 11-to-5 curveballs.

RHP Trey Cobb (2013) continues a very strong pitching tradition at Broken Arrow High School (Okla.), with an athletic and projectable 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame and a fastball that sat at 88-90 peaking at 91 in his 2 innings of work.

DBAT Mustangs-Sharp starter OF/RHP Dallas Alderton (Parish Episcopal, Texas) worked the first 4.1 innings, striking out 3 with a deceptive 83-87 fastball.

Fellow 2013 RHP Thomas Hatch (Tulsa Union HS, Okla.) struck out 2 in 1.2 innings of work, sitting at 88-90.  He showed similar stuff at the PG Jr. National a month ago.

Kentucky commit Clinton Holland (Woodford County HS, Ky.), currently ranked #3 in the 2013 class, pitched 91-93 in an inning of work as the Kentucky Baseball Club 16 Blue team fell to the All American Prospects Gray 5-4.

Holland was up to 91 at the Jr. National Showcase last month, as it's easy to see him throwing even harder in the next 1-2 years given his easy arm strength.  He has a strong, athletic and projectable frame, with the ability to throw downhill making his stuff that much more difficult to track out of the hand.

Teammate Ben Fisher (Madison Central HS, Ky.) went 3-for-3 at the plate with 1 run and 1 RBI, showing a fluid, quick bat and the ability to stay inside the ball well.

2015 RHP Andrew Cabezas (Mater HS, Fla.) pitched 6 solid innings for the All American Prospects Gray team, giving up only 1 walk and 3 hits while striking out 6.  Cabezas showed easy arm strength with a smooth delivery and sound overall mechanics pumping his fastball up into the 80-84 range.  He also threw about a dozen sliders that he also can throw for strikes.

The Dulin Dodgers duo of LHP Chase Hamilton (2013, Arlington HS, Tenn.) and RHP Brett Hanewich (2013, IMG Academies/Pendleton School, Fla.) combined to limit the Tidewater Drillers to 2 runs in a 4-2 playoff victory.  Both pitchers threw strikes roughly 75% of the time, and both show projectable 6-foot-3, 190-pound frames.  That's where the comparison ends, as Hanewich threw his fastball consistently 10 mph harder than Hamilton.  Hanewich was consistently 85-88 topping out at 90 mph, exhibiting a balanced delivery and sound mechanics and very good fastball command as he struck out 3 in 3.1 innings.  He is currently ranked #24 in the 2013 class.

Both pitchers also hit doubles to help the cause.

In an Excel Blue Sox 3-2 playoff victory over the 643 DP 16U Cougars, 2012 LHP Thomas Lowery (Pelham HS, Ala.) went the distance striking out 9.  He showed very good command, throwing mostly 84-86 mph fastballs in and around the zone.  He has a clean arm action, working quickly while challenging hitters with his fastball, showing some cut action on the pitch at times.

Long Island Whalers RHPs Brian Helft (2013, W.C. Mepham HS, NY) and Michael Castagnaro (St. Dominics HS, NY) combined for a 2-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Action Baseball 16u Green.  Both pitchers threw strikes with fastballs that topped out in the upper-70s.

Harrison Spruiell (2012, C.E. Byrd HS, La.) was 80-85 over 2 innings, Zack Hamilton (2013, Parkview Baptist HS, La.) was 84-86 over his 2 innings of work, Nicholas Junger (2013, Niceville HS, Fla.) was 82-87/88 in 1 innings, while Anfernee Grier (2013, Russell County HS, Ala.) was 84-86 in his inning of work leading up to the best arm of the game.

Kevin Davis (2013, T.R. Miller HS, Ala.) is currently ranked 8th in the 2013 class, and showed why with a 88-92 fastball pitching the final inning for the Marucci Elite 16's.  Davis has outstanding arm speed pitching downhill with an athletic and projectable 6-foot-1, 185-pound stature.

The Richmond Braves 2013 National team received a strong playoff performance from Adrian Powell Jr. (Broad Run HS, Va.) in a 5-2 victory over the Florida Harballers 16U.  With a stocky and strong frame, Powell dialed his fastball up to 88 mph sitting at 80-86 while snapping off some nice 12-to-6 68-73 curveballs, leading to 7 strikeouts in his 7 inning complete game effort.

Bryce Harman (2013, Lloyd C. Bird HS, Va.) used his big 6-foot-6, 205-pound frame and equally big left-handed swing to crush a 2-run home run in this game.  His size makes his power potential pretty obvious.

The Florida Hardballers #3 hitter, Jordon Austin (Forest HS, Fla.) is the 36th ranked player in the 2013 class.  He shows 5-tool potential with very good speed, solid arm strength and very good bat speed, with the ability to lace line drives from gap-to-gap.  He went 2-for-2 with a double in this game.

3B/RHP Tyler Danish (2013, Durant HS, Fla.) continues to throw well for Chet Lemon's Juice, tossing 2.1 solid innings while striking out a pair in a 3-1 playoff win over the East Cobb Rangers.  Danish was once again 84-90 peaking at 91, with great size and athleticism.  He also went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.

Stars 16u National LHP Joe Burris (2013, Albemarie HS, Va.) struck out 7 in a complete game 7 inning effort as part of a 4-3 playoff win over the Orlando Scorpions' 2014 team.  Burris threw 79-83/84 fastballs with some arm-side run, while also flashing sharp break on his 69-71 curveball, although was mostly fastballs in this contest.

Scorpions starter Andrew Karp (2014, West Orange HS, Fla.) shows exception promise, with a projectable 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame and a 84-88 mph fastball.  He has easy arm strength, with plenty of room for added velocity the next few years, while also showing some arm-side run.  He has a promising breaking ball that should improve with time and experience, and also flashed a solid fading changeup, maintaining the same arm speed with the pitch as his fastball.

2013 C/OF/RHP Ronnie Healy (Jupiter HS, Fla.) showed outstanding arm speed to generate 87-90 mph fastballs, striking out 3 batters in his inning of work.  He showed the same 90 mph velocity at the Jr. National Showcase in Fort Myers last month, but is primarily a catcher with a big left-handed bat, currently ranked 9th in the 2013 class.  He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI in the Palm Beach Rockets 5-4 playoff loss to the CBC Riverhawks.

2014 LHP Bennett Sousa (Benjamin HS, Fla.) also showed great arm strength, throwing his fastball in the 87-88 range despite giving up the winning run in the bottom of the 7th.

2014 OF Justin Smith (Bartram Trail HS, Fla.) showed very good tools across the board and an athletic 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame.  He is a potential 5-tool athlete, with room to add strength lands to broad shoulders and long limbs.  He shows a loose, easy arm from the outfield, solid speed on the basepaths and excellent bat speed with power potential at the plate.  He went 2-for 3 with a home run, a walk, 2 runs and 2 RBI in this game.

South Farmington Blues RHP Jake Lowery (2013, Hartland HS, Mich.) was dominant in a complete-game shutout over the Mid-Atlantic Canes as part of a 2-0 playoff victory, and his solo home run proved to be the only run he would need to seal the win.  He offers good size as both a pitcher and as a hitter at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, throwing 78-82/85.  he shows that he knows how to pitch, changing speeds with his fastball and 69-72 slider.  His slider is his out pitch, and can throw it in any count while also showing some promise with a changeup.

South Charlotte Panthers LHP Jon Stires (Lake Norman HS, NC) allowed only 3 hits in 7 innings while striking out 6 in a shutout over Canes White to advance in the playoffs.  Stires struggled with his control, walking 6 batters, but battled and proved to be difficult to hit.  He threw his 78-80 mph fastball to both sides of the plate, continually competing on the mound.  He showed arm-side run on his fastball and a sharp 12-to-6 curveball.  He has all of the making of a prototypical crafty lefty.

Canes White RHPs Brandon Casas (2012, Gilman HS, Md.) and Jamie Callahan (2012, Dillon HS, SC) pitched well, with Casas striking out 5 in 4 innings as the starter.  With a perfectly projectable 6-foot-6, 185-pound frame, Casas pitched in an around the zone during his outing, showing the ability to pitch with a 87 mph fastball that had some cut action to it at times.  He also showed good command of a 11-to-5 curveball.  Callahan, currently ranked 109th in the 2012 class, threw even harder in his 3 innings of work, throwing mostly 87-91 fastballs.  The pitch had some life to it, exploding out of his hand.  He was up to 92 at the PG National last month, and has committed to play in-state for South Carolina.

MLI Phantoms 16U RHP Dalton McCarthy (2012, Eastport-SouthManor HS, NY) struck out 10 in 6 innings in a 4-2 playoff victory over the BLBA Houston Sox. At 6-foot-6, 220-pounds, he used his size well to throw on a downward plane towards batters, making his 80-84/86 fastball look that much harder.  He struggled with command at times, but showed good determination pitching through a few tight situations.  His upper-60s curve has good potential, but didn't throw too many.

Fellow RHP and McCarthy's high school teammate Billy Goncalves (2012) also is built tall and strong at 6-foot-5, 230-pounds.  Goncalves worked 79-85 in his inning of relief to secure the win, and also went 2-for-2 at the plate.

BLBA Houston Sox Ryan Jackson (2013, Klein HS, Texas) was arguably the top positional prospect on the field, using his speed to leg out an RBI triple in a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.  The 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder has good tools across the board.  Defensively hakes good routes in the outfield with a good first-step and can cover a lot of ground.  At the plate he is an aggressive hitter with very good bat speed with the ability to drive the ball to the gaps.

The Orlando Scorpions Underclass Purple advanced in the playoffs once again, defeating So Cal National Travel Team 4-3 in extra innings.  So Cal National Travel Team took the lead in the top of the 8th before the Scorpions responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the frame.

Scorpions starter Cody Crouse (2013, Bloomingdale HS, Fla.) was sharp, striking out 7 batters in 7 innings of work.  He is extremely projectable at 6-foot-5, 175-pounds, and flashed similar stuff to the 84-87 fastball he showed at the PG Jr. National Showcase in mid-June.  He has a balanced delivery, throwing downhill with good extension, using his height and lomb limbs to his advantage.

2014 LHP John Henry Styles (Episcopal HS, Texas) struck out 6 in a 7 inning complete game effort as the Houston Heat beat the Long Island Titans Gold to advance yet again in the playoffs.  Styles lived in and around the strike zone with his 77-81 fastball, using a loose, easy arm action while changing speeds with a 68-72 slider.

Kacy Clemens (2013, Memorial HS, Texas), the son of Roger who participated at the 2011 Jr. National Showcase last month, went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI.  Fellow 2013 grad and Memorial HS teammate Walker Pennington also had 2 hits, including a double and 2 runs scored.

Houston Banditos Black 16U RHPs Brigham Hill (2014, Lufkin HS, Texas) and Jovan Hernandez (2012, Rockwall Heath HS, Texas). combined to hold the Marucci Elite 16's Louisiana team to only 1 hit in a 2-1 playoff win.

Hill offers good size and strength, particularly for his age, and threw strikes with a 82-86/87 fastball.  Both his 11-to-5 curveball and frisbee slider show promise, using both pitches well to complement his fastball.

Hernandez, a primary catcher currently ranked 99th in the 2012 class, showed 91 mph velocity and good speed for a catcher at the Perfect Game National Showcase a month ago.  In this game, he threw 87-89 in his inning of work with easy arm strength.  He also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double and a run scored.

RHP Alden Cartwright (2013, Runnels HS, La.), who pitched an inning for in game 1 of the playoffs for the Marucci Elite 16's Louisiana earlier in the day, started this game striking out a pair in 4.2 innings of work, showing the same 83-86 velocity.

2013 LHP Jared Poche (Lutcher HS, La.) propelled the Marucci Elite 16's Louisiana to a 3-1 win over the SF Prospects.  Poche was in or around the strike zone over his 6.1 inning outing, showing the ability to change speeds with an effective 3-pitch mix. His fastball sat 78-82 and touched 85 while also throwing a 67-70 slider and a 70-74 changeup.  He also went 1-for-2 with a run scored as the team's 3-hole hitter.

LHP Alexander Bostic (2013, Weddington HS, NC) struck out 7 North Coast Gladiators hitters in a 5-4 playoff win for the South Charlotte Panthers 2013 team.  Bostic allowed only 1 hit in 5.1 innings, but he did struggle with control walking 6 batters.  He has very good size at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, and showed some arm-side run on his 78-84 fastball.

Gladiators RHP Griffin Weir (2013, Amherst Steele HS, Ohio) and LHP Eric Lauer (Midview HS, Ohio) combined to strike out 8 in 6 innings.  Weir also has very good size and projectability at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, using a 80-85/86 fastball to strike out 5 in his 3.1 innings of work.  He pitched downhill, showing some cut action on his fastball, while changing speeds by mixing in a 11-to-5 curveball and a changeup.  Weir also went 2-for-2 with a double at the plate.

The projectability theme continues with Lauer, who is a smooth, 6-foot-3, 180 pound lefty who threw a 78-84/86 running fastball.

Mid-Atlantic Canes IF Cory Gantz (2013, Hempfield HS, Pa.) had 3 hits in a 10-6 playoff victory over the St. Louis Gamers 16u Gray.  Gantz employed a short, compact swing, and was quick to the ball showing solid bat speed and an aggressive approach.

Gamers' leadoff hitter OF Mitch Carriger (Highland HS, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with a walk, doing his best by getting on base while scoring 2 runs.  Carriger is a high-energy player also using a short compact swing while covering the plate well.  He showed a disciplined approach, and also showed the ability to cover a lot of ground in the outfield.

Middle infielder John Udina (2013, Vianney HS, Mo.) went 2-for-3 with a triple in the game with 3 driven in.  With a lean, wiry frame, he showed a quick bat and good first-step quickness.

So Cal National Travel Team advanced as RHP Touki Toussaint (2014, Coral Springs Charter HS, Fla.) pitched well in a 10-4 win overall Action Baseball 16u White.  While he struggled to throw strikes consistently, he showed excellent arm speed and fastball velocity, throwing a heavy 84-88 fastball that touched 90 mph.  He's plenty of projectable at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, making it easy to see him throwing much harder, more consistently 2-3 years from now.

And to add interest to intrigue, he also smacked a solo home run in this game.

2 big bats stood out in the BLBA Houston Sox' 17-4 win over the Detroit Metro Stars.  Thaddius Lowry (2013, Spring HS, Texas) showed good bat speed going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 4 runs scored, while David Gonzalez (2012, Tomball HS, Texas) had a pair of doubles in a 2-for-2 performance in which he drove in 4 runs, scored twice and walked twice.

Houston Sox starter Sam Odom (2013, Klein HS, Texas) showed good stuff, striking out 3 over 5 innings.  He was consistently in or around the zone with his 82-86/87 fastball, showing outstanding arm speed.  He changed speeds well at times with a solid 12-to-6 curveball.

Minnesota Starz 16U catcher Travis Nuebeck (2013, Hill Murry HS, Minn.) continues to hit the ball well, going 2-for-3with a double in this game.  He's hitting .400 with 3 doubles in the tournament, and is part of what is stacking up to be a promising 2013 class from Minnesota.

In a 7-2 playoff loss to the Orlando Scorpions' 2014 team, the Carolina Cubs 16U had a trio of right-handed pitchers that flashed quality stuff.

Starter Hunter Baker (2013, Wake Christian HS, NC) is a tall, big-bodied righty built at 6-foot-6, 245-pounds.  He struggled at times to find the strike zone, but threw a 81-85 fastball that peaked at 87.  Jacob Baranosky (2012, Riverside HS, NC) threw 82-85 while showing good feel for a true 12-to-6 69-70 curveball. Tyler Marshburn (2012, West Johnston HS, NC) showed the best command, throwing strikes with his fastball that he ran up to 86, comfortably working in the 81-85 range.

Scorpions leadoff hitter Austin Hogan (2014, Boone HS, Fla.) went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the win.  LHP/1B Dash Winningham (2014, Trinity Catholic HS, Fla.) started the game pitching the first inning.  He was 74-80 in this game, but has been up to 86 in the past.  He was more effectie serving as the team's cleanup hitter, going 2-for-3 with a double.  As 6-foot-2, 220-pounds, he has obvious power potential.

Chet Lemon's Juice 3B/RHP Tyler Danish (2013, Durant HS, Fla.) worked in the mid-to-upper 80s, touching 89 while mixing in a promising curveball in a 11-3 win over Team Georgia Baseball Academy 16U.  Danish, at 6-foot, 170-pounds, has an athletic frame with room to add strength.  His arm works well, with very good arm speed and an overall smooth delivery.  He can add some late movement to his fastball, and shows good command of his 11-to-5 curveball, striking out 3 in 2.2 innings.  Also a promising hitter, he served as the Juice's 3-hole hitter.

RHP Tyler Knowles (2012, Charlote HS, Fla.) also presents a promising, projectable frame, working in the 84-87 range with an effortless arm and the ability to throw downhill with some sinking action.  His curveball has some promise, and he recorded a strikeout with each of the 2 players he retired.

Infielder George Ragsdale (2012, North Port HS, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with a double, with an athletic, large frame.  He displays soft hands with good defensive tools across the board, as well as excellent bat speed at the plate.

OF Bobby Bennett (2012, Lake Brantley HS, Winter Springs, Fla.) was 3-for-4  with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.  Piriz continues to swing a hot bat, with a short, compact, balanced swing that produces good bat speed.  He hits mostly gap-to-gap, but has some power potenital.

In an Xcel Baseball 16u 7-3 win over Canes Green, both teams combined for 9 pitches taking the hill.  Four of those flashes mid-80s heat.

Canes Green starter Garrett Chrismon (2012, Menchville HS, Va.) has an athletic, projectable 6-foot, 175-pound frame.  He showed a balanced delivery pitching downhill with a loose arm that produced 80-85 mph fastballs.

Cedar Rapids Washington LHP A.J. Puk (2013) has been up to 86 in the past, throwing 82-85 in this game.  With a perfectly projectable 6-foot-4, 190-pound stature, Puk shows the ability to use his size well to throw downhill.  He maintains his arm speed well with his promising changeup, although struggled to throw strikes in this game, need 25 pitches to record 1 out.

RHP Caleb Smith (2013, Riverside Christian, Del.) was 81-84 with 1 strikeout in 1.1 innings.

IF/RHP Richie Furline (2013, Treasure Coast HS, Fla.) showed the best stuff for Xcel Baseball 16u, throwing 80-83/84.  He struck out 3 in his 2 innings of work, mixing in a promising 76-71 slider.

Indiana Prospects LHP Max Knutson (2013, Moundsview HS, Minn.) displayed excellent size and arm strength in a 6-5 playoff loss to the Florida Hardballers 16U.  With a promising 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame, Knutson easily produced 83-88 velocity peaking at 90 mph.  He threw strikes with his fastball, commanding the pitch very well while showing the ability to add heavy, sinking action.  His breaking ball has some promise, but he relied mostly on his fastball in this game.  With a balanced delivery and the ability to move the ball around the zone, he also showed good pitchability.  Currently ranked 57th in the 2013 class, Knutson is a premium prospect to keep an eye on the next 2 years.

RHP Kasey Ralston (2012, Holy Family Catholic HS, Minn.) had trouble throwing strikes, recording only 1 out in his appearance in relief of Knutson, but showed good fastball velocity (86-88) and a tight upper-70s slider that flashed promise.

Three FTB Louisville Slugger right-handed pitchers, Gage Hutchinson (2013, DeLand HS, Fla.), Bradley Zunica (2014, Lakewood Ranch HS, Fla.) and Manny Rodriguez (2013, Lake Nona HS, Fla.) combined to strike out 9 St. Louis Gamers 16U Blue hitters, giving up only 4 hits and 1 run.  The 6-foot, 160-pound Hutchinson showed good size with long limbs, using a loose arm to produce 79-84 fastballs and a promising low-70s slider that flashed sharp short break.  The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Zunica also has very good size, producing 78-82 mph fastballs.  Primary outfielder Manny Rodriguez is the most promising athlete of this trio, with an athletic and lean, wiry-strong frame.  He threw 78-81 mixing in a solid slider.

LHP Chris Erwin (2013, Grayson HS, Ga.) started opposite Smith, and pitched very well in the loss.  He threw strikes with his 82-84 fastball with a loose arm while pitching downhill.  He set up hitters well, changing speeds with a upper-60s curveball and a low-70s change, showing solid potential with both secondary offerings, striking out 8 in his 6 innings of work.
