6/8/2022 3:04:45 PM

Cole Akins (2023 1B, Braselton, GA) missed barrels through his two innings. The fastball sat in the low-70s with arm-side run out of the sidearm slot. Akins also mixed changeup and sliders that showed depth. He finished up allowing only one hit and striking out four.

Shelton Whigham (2024 1B, Roswell, GA) cruised through the two inning start. Fastball was commanded well, living in the low-70s. The curveball was mixed in for strikes and showed depth. Wingham only allowed one hit and struck out two in the outing.

Trey Majette (2024 1B, Lawrenceville, GA) picked up a couple knocks in Wednesday's action. Swing is short and compact with some barrel whip through the zone. Showed some pull-side jump off the barrel with a double into the right-center gap. Also came in to pitch and showed promise on the mound. Fastball got up to 77 mph with some late arm-side life in the zone. The curveball showed 1-7 shape with depth.

Ferdinand Rosa (2024 SS, Toa Alta, PR) got the barrel to an inside fastball and drove in a run in the middle innings. Rosa has a simple approach at the plate with good rhythm in the stroke.

Joshua Evans (2024 OF, Lawrenceville, GA) extended the score with a single through the left side of the infield. Athletic frame with good feel for the barrel at the dish. Also came in to pitch in relief and showed a live arm. Fastball got up to 86 mph from the left-hander.

Cole McKechnie (2024 OF, Aliso Viejo, CA) showed his ability to get to the inside pitch with a single through the left side to cut into the deficit. Got his second hit on a line drive right back up the middle. Quick hands and has shown some feel for the barrel today.

Jake Zehner (2024 OF, Woodstock, GA) showed good feel for a two-pitch mix through the first inning. Fastball had some ride out of the hand, up to 83 mph. Breaking ball sat 67-70 mph with depth. Struck out three batters in the outing. Has held velocity well throughout the three innings of work.

Braydon Kersey (2024 SS, Alpharetta, GA) collected a couple hard-hit knocks in Wednesday's action. The swing is smooth and has good barrel whip through the zone. Showed the ability to let the ball get deep and shoot it the other way. Has gone 2-for-3 so far with a double that he smoked over the left fielders head.

Justin Orridge (2024 OF, Cocoa Beach, FL) kept the hands inside on a fastball and shot a single the other way. Athletic player with a good gap-to-gap approach at the dish. Also pulled a single through the left side to drive in a run in the later innings. Has gone 2-for-3 so far in Wednesday's action.

Carlos Ceron (2023 RHP, Lawrenceville, GA) showed good barrel awareness dropping the head on a fastball down-and-in and stroking a double. Solid athlete with a nose for the game. Has gone 1-for-2 today.

Elijah Ratliff (2023 C, Oxford, GA) showed good approach in his second at-bat. Got a fastball down the middle and didn't miss it lining it to the centerfielder for a knock. Good barrel whip and weight transfer on the swing. 1-for-2 on the day.

Batting Practice Highlights  >>

6/7/2022 6:01:51 PM

Joshua Evans (2024 OF, Lawrenceville, GA) utilized a spread out stance as he stayed balanced throughout the cut. Proved to have some serious bat speed and drove it with intent when he timed it up properly.

Trey Majette (2024 1B, Lawrenceville, GA) showcased some power in the box as he littered the gaps with deep fly balls. Knows how to leverage the baseball and projects as a power type bat going forward.

Justin Orridge (2024 OF, Cocoa Beach, FL) flashed a huge cut at the dish and went after the baseball. Uphill cut while looking to drive it deep with backspin. Drove it off the top of the tall fence in leftfield. Easy power.

Grant Witczak (2023 2B, Suwanee, GA) started with an open front side before striding in and letting it eat. Big swing working uphill looking to lift the baseball. Also flashed big time power as he homered to the pull-side.

4 - Gray v. 5 - Green >>

6/7/2022 5:00:00 AM

Michael Gagliano (2024 LHP, Canton, GA)is a 6-foot, 160-pound southpaw from Sequoyah in his hometown. Earning the start for Gray, Gagliano worked the first four on the bump for his club to the tune of, four innings pitched, where he stranded a hit, and punched out 4. Projectable actions and flexibility on the mound suggest that more velo will develop with added strength and further added pitchability. Michael worked through the assignment by mixing a fastball in the upper 70’s, high of 79-mph with run through the zone, with a changeup in the low 70’s with sell, and a curveball with 11/5 shape and depth in the low-to-mid 60’s.

Trey Majette (2024 1B, Lawrenceville, GA) turned in a multi-hit game at the dish. With a hit in all three at-bats, Trey has natural feel for the barrel, balance in the box, and evident hand-eye. With a mature approach in the box, Majette stayed aggressive and made loud barrel contact all game long. What Majette does well is he stays short to the ball and doesn’t try to do too much hitting the pitch where it’s thrown. Even better is that he recorded a knock from each side of the plate, which tells you all you need to know about his advanced hit tool. A good athlete, Majette moves well in the outfield with feel for the leather as well as at first base that helps him receive throws from infielders with ease.

Colton Denton (2025 C, Knoxville, TN) is a 6-foot, 210-pound catcher and corner infielder who showcased an advance feel at the plate turning in a multi-hit game at the plate. Colton had demonstrated twitch in the box, and power to the gaps with underway speed on the bases as well. With quiet receiving actions behind the dish, Denton earned a lot of strikes for his battery-mate and has a strong arm to bases with quick actions and a strong arm behind the plate.

Dylan Hunter Tatum (2023 LHP, Clarkesville, GA) is a 5-foot-11, 210-pound southpaw from Habersham Central. A top performer today in all phases, Dylan earned the start and turned in three clean innings where he scattered three hits on the mound. With a projectable build, and a loose and easy arm action, Tatum mixed a fastball up to 75 with run through the zone, with a changeup with sell, and a curveball in the mid-60’s with depth and downer break. Tatum would also turn in a multi-hit game with two knocks. Natural feel for the barrel in the box with twitch and hand-eye.

Luke O’Malley (2023, RHP, Marietta, Ga.) is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound primary righthanded pitcher, corner infielder and outfielder who went four spotless innings on the mound in relief. With evident athleticism and a clean arm action on the mound, Luke filled the zone with his repertoire which included a heavy fastball up to 83-mph. To complement his fastball, Luke mixed in a curveball with depth in the mid-60’s that created a lot of swing-and-miss. O’Malley tunneled his repertoire well which added to his effectiveness.

Reed Purcell (2023, OF, Alpharetta, Ga.) is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound primary outfielder and second baseman, who turned in a 2-for-3 day with a triple. Seen all game in the box, Purcell stays patient and has nice quick twitch actions which allows him to make strong barreled contact to all fields. Athleticism stretches out of the box as well as Purcell stays aggressive in all phases with range in the outfield and feel for the leather.
