2021 14U California Prospect Showcase (10/23/2021 - 10/24/2021)

11-White Game Highlights >>

10/24/2021 7:48:40 PM

Eric Sotelo (2026, Adelanto, CA) turned on an inside fastball and shot it past the first baseman for a double in his first at bat.  He kept his hands inside the ball well, allowing the barrel to whip through and square up the offering.  In his second at bat, he was able to get on top of a high fastball and send it back up the middle for a single.  He does a nice job of working through the swing with his lower half to generate easy pop off the bat.

Kevin Duplessis (2026, Sacramento, CA) did a nice job of letting the ball get deep into the hitting zone in his at bats today, going 2-for-3 with a pair of opposite field singles.  He is an athletic player that has quick hands and takes the barrel straight to the ball.  He made consistent contact all weekend and ended the event 3-for-6.  He also showed off his speed on the bases, putting pressure on defenses by stealing bases.

Tyler Cornish (2026, Camarillo, CA) made more loud contact today in his last at bat, sending a hard hit line drive back up the middle for a base hit.  He has a balanced swing and is consistently on time.  He does a nice job making contact out in front of the plate and not trying to do too much.  He would end the weekend 3-for-6.

10-Royal Game Highlights >>

10/24/2021 7:47:39 PM

Warren Gravely (2026, Clovis, CA) showed nice arm talent today, striking out four in his two innings on the mound.  He has an on-balance delivery that is easily repeatable.  His arm is quick and loose, and he uses his lower half well, allowing him to run the fastball up to 81 mph.  He did a nice job getting ahead of pitchers with the heat before putting them away with an 11-5 curveball that has advanced bite for his age.

Reece Day (2026, Clovis, CA) put his barrel control on display today, going 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI today.  The singles came in the last two at bats of the day and were both singles to right field.  He has good patience at the plate and rarely chases bad offerings.  His balance allows him to wait on pitches and send them where they are pitched.

Kaij Ordaz (2025, Chula Vista, CA) was all over the ball today, recording two hits in three tries and sending a ball deep to center in the one out that he made.  He was able to take advantage of two inside pitches and sent them to left for singles, showing the ability to make solid contact out in front of the plate.  He does a nice job of keeping his hands inside the ball and driving pitches to the pull side.

9-Black Game Highlights >>

10/24/2021 6:07:40 PM

Weston Peterson (2026, Menlo Park, CA) showed nice aggressiveness in his second at bat today, jumping all over a first pitch fastball and sending it down the line for a double.  He has quick hands that allow him to get to the inside pitch.  He has a pull approach and looks to do damage to any mistake over the inner half.  He also showed nice potential on the mound today, working three innings and striking out five.  He has an athletic delivery and is consistently in the zone with his fastball that sat 74-77 mph.  He paired this pitch with a nice curveball that came in at 67 mph.

Ethan Stipp (2026, Las Vegas, NV) got all of a fastball left over the middle of the plate in his second at bat, launching it deep into the left-center field gap for an inside-the-park home run.  He has good balance and timing, making it easy to use his strength and square up balls that catch too much of the plate.  He also showed off the speed, rounding the corners well and turning on the burners, coming into home standing up.

Quinton Naranjo (2026, Orofino, ID) was effective on the mound in his lone inning of work.  He struck out two of the three batters he faced.  His fastball sat 70-73 mph and had some sink on it.  He worked a 12-6 curveball off of the fastball that came in at 59 mph to keep hitters off balance.  At the plate, he showed nice barrel control, drilling a line drive to right for a base hit in his first at bat.  He did a nice job of letting the ball get deep and not trying to do too much with the offering.

9-Black Game Highlights >>

10/24/2021 5:00:00 AM

Ryan Crisostomo (2025 RHP, San Diego, CA) made plenty of loud contact at the plate today, drilling a base hit back up the middle in his first at bat and crushing a ball to left field in his last at bat.  He showed good patience, working two walks today as well.  He has good barrel control and looks to take advantage of mistakes.

Amos Aguilera (2026 1B, Bloomington, CA) jumped all over an inside fastball in his first at bat, sending it down the line in left and hustling around for an easy double.  He is a strong player that keeps his hands inside the ball well, allowing him to barrel inside pitches.

Caden Coppola (2026 LHP, Moreno Valley, CA) showed impressive barrel control today, sending base hits to left and to right.  He lets the ball get deep into the hitting zone and does not look to do too much at the plate.  He would end the day 2-for-2 with an RBI sac fly as well.

Ethan Stipp (2026 OF, Las Vegas, NV) took advantage of his opportunities with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  He showed off the speed in his first at bat, legging out an infield single.  In his second at bat he recorded a single on a sharp line drive back up the middle.  He does a nice job of staying on balance, making quality swings in every at bat.

Batting Practice Highlights >>

10/24/2021 4:42:14 AM

Eli Daniel (2026 1B, Caldwell, ID) showed off a solid swing with strength to it. Slight toe-tap timing mechanism with solid raw power to pullside. Quiet hands pre-pitch and frequently found the barrel.

Ethan Stipp (2026 OF, Las Vegas, NV) has good strength to his swing and drove the ball well up the middle in BP. Solid present strength in the frame and showed bat speed as well.

Weston Peterson (2026 3B, Menlo Park, CA) showed a swing with solid leverage and good power to pullside. Good projection left on his athletic frame and found the barrel often.

Seth Sanchez (2026 SS, North Tustin, CA) starts with a simple toe-tap and uses the whole field well. He has good feel for the barrel and swings with strength. He has plenty of room to fill out and should continue to add to his power.

Warren Gravely (2026 C, Scotts Valley, CA) kept the ball in the air often during his BP round and got solid carry on his batted balls. He swings with good intent and drove the ball well to all fields.

Sawyer Hewett (2025 C, Hillsboro, OR) has some nice natural looseness to his swing. Good intent to pullside and hits the ball there with authority. Currently has solid raw power but should continue to add more as he fills out.

Jackson Way (2026 OF, Turlock, CA) is very athletic in the box and able to make adjustments on the fly. Solid leverage and feel for the barrel in his right-handed swing. He shows quick bat speed and keeps the bat on plane well.

Eric Sotelo (2026 1B, Adelanto, CA) shows off a fluid left-handed swing. He uses the whole field well and has some lift to the swing. There's good intent here and projects well over time.

11-White Game Highlights >>

10/24/2021 3:36:40 AM

Tyler Cornish (2026 OF, Camarillo, CA) was on time and sent a ball deep to left field for an RBI triple in his second at bat.  He has a good frame for his age and is presently strong, allowing him to leverage the ball deep into the gaps.  He also had another hit on the day, a line drive that was crushed that the third baseman could not handle.

Jackson Way (2026 OF, Turlock, CA) had a strong outing on the mound today, working three scoreless innings, striking out three and only allowing one hit.  He showed good control of his fastball, working both sides of the plate while sitting 71-75 mph for most of his outing.  He paired the fastball with a curveball that came in at 64 mph and kept hitters off balance all game.  He would also show the abilities with the bat, sending a single down the third base line in his last at bat.

Kevion Duplessis (2026 2B, Sacramento, CA) showed plenty of promise on the mound today, working two scoreless innings and striking out three while only allowing one lone hit.  He showed advanced feel for his slider for his age, throwing it in the zone for called strikes and in the dirt for swings and misses.  He sat 70-72 with his fastball and was not afraid to go after hitters early in the zone.  He also showed good bat-to-ball skills at the plate, going the other way for a single to right field in his second at bat.

10-Royal Game Highlights >>

10/24/2021 3:26:27 AM

Wyatt Rosenthal (2026 C, Madera, CA) showed his aggressive approach in his first at bat, sending a double down the left field line early in the count.  He also added a single up the middle in his third at bat and would end the day 2-for-4.  He has a short swing and quick hands that allow him to let the ball get deep into the hitting zone.

Reece Day (2026 OF, Clovis, CA) had full command of his fastball and curveball combination, striking out four in two innings pitched.  He leaned on the curveball for most of the outing, and for good reason.  The offering has sharp break with plenty of downer action.  He had full confidence in it, throwing it in any count.  His fastball sat 68-72 mph and he was able to move it around enough to cause weak contact.  He also added an RBI single at the plate in his first at bat.

Rainn Purath (2025 RHP, Ladera Ranch, CA) did not waste any opportunities today, going 2-for-2 with a pair of well struck balls to the pull side.  His first single was one that he lifted into left and his second one was a laser that proved to be too hot for the third baseman to handle.  He has good barrel control and is consistently makes contact out in front of the plate.

Gregory Ontiveros (2026 RHP, San Marcos, CA) made arguably the loudest contact on the day, roping a double over the left fielder's head in his first at bat that would drive a run in.  He would follow the double up with another well struck single in his second at bat, ending the day with a 2-for-4 line.  He has a short swing that is compact and does not have any wasted effort.  He creates nice barrel whip and is able to generate carry on his line drives.
