2014 Southeast Top & Underclass

12-Gold vs. 11-Orange Highlights
8/23/2014 1:14:54 PM
Quinn Smith (2016, C/RHP, McCallie School, GA) features sound mechanics and good feel on all his pitches. Smith mixed in a CB at 69 MPH and a CH at 78 MPH along with his FB, which was 83-86 MPH. Smith's CB had tight rotation and good depth while his CH showed good potential as well. Smith did a good job of staying on-line during his delivery and filling up the zone with strikes.

Daniel Wright (2016, LHP, Hunstville HS, AL) attacks hitters on the mound while throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Wright spotted up his FB, which sat 80-83 MPH, and featured some arm-side run. His 2-seam FB topped at 79 MPH and he showed good feel for his change up, which was 76 MPH. Wright stays online during his delivery and is around the plate with all his pitches.

Lance Johnson (2016, RHP/SS, Thompson HS, AL) works quick on throws from a low 3/4 arm slot. His FB topped at 84 MPH and he also showed a good straight CH at 73 MPH and a SL at 70 MPH. Johnson will also drop down on his FB. He has a loose arm and long arm action that can baffle hitters.

Mervyl "MJ" Melendez (2017, C/MIF, St. James HS, AL) went 2-3 at the plate with a 3B and a 1B. Melendez displayed very quick hands and a fluid stroke through the zone. He made consistent solid contact and looked athletic on the base paths.

Hunter Bennett (2016, OF/RHP/1B, Chilton Co. HS, AL) has an aggressive approach with solid bat speed. Bennett features a balanced approach and good eye at the plate that resulted in a 2B his second AB of the game.

Nicholas "Cole" Gardner  (2016, 2B/SS, Daphne HS, AL) picked up two singles in his first two at-bats, including an infield single, to finish the game 2-3 at the plate. Gardner did a nice job of staying inside the ball and hitting it where it was pitched.
