National Team Highlights
8/12/2014 10:15:17 AM
The radar gun doesn't make it obvious, but the arm action does: 2016 LHP Nick Lodolo (La Verne, CA) was one of the best pitching prospects of the event, in spite of topping out at 84 mph. Lodolo is a highly projectable pitcher with a 6-foot-5 175 pound frame with a lot of room to fill. He has a simple repeatable delivery with good coordination. But what stands out most is his silky smooth arm action, which allows him to generate 80-84 mph velocity with little effort and create big sinking life. He struck out three over his four innings of work, and finally allowed a run in his fourth inning, he has the makings of a quality changeup in the mid 70s and a deep curveball in the uppper 60s.

The offensive highlight of the day came on a towering home run to right field by switch hitting 2016 C Thomas Dillard (Cordova, TN). He crushed a ball over the right field fence on a hanging breaking ball, it hung in the air for at least 6.22 seconds before disappearing from sight behind the wall, while swinging the bat from the left side in this particular at bat.

2016 C/IF Garrett Woolforth (Spring, TX) showed off his big arm again behind the plate after putting on a show in the catcher workout. He sees the ball extremely well and had one of the best present approaches of any hitter at the event.

2016 RHP/OF Ryan McDonald (Charleston, SC) will take the mound tomorrow but he showed well with the bat on day one, going 2-for-2 with a single, a double, a walk and a run scored. He has big loft power created by leverage from his long limbs.

2016 MIF Ryan Reynolds (Monroe, LA) reached base in all three plate apperances, drawing a walk each time and would score a run.

2016 IF Joey Polak (Quincy, IL) had a loud 0-for-3 day that included fly ball hangtimes of 6.03 and 6.16 seconds.

2017 OF Ronald Washington (Houston, TX) went 1-for-3 after showing off his tremendous raw power in BP.
