Perfect Game Softball Iowa Scouting Showcase 14U Division

IOWA CITY, IA- It was a perfect weekend for softball out at City Park in Iowa City, Iowa this past weekend. With sunny weather in the mid 70’s, the temperature was right for some hot competition. Quality athletes were seen on every field showing off their skills to our scouts and below we highlight some athletes who caught our scouts eye.

Kinley Dietz (2029, Shell Rock, IA)- Kinley Dietz of the CIK 2011’s team was a standout this weekend behind the plate and with her bat. Defensively, she was impressive as a leader behind the dish, constantly communicating. She is mobile and athletic behind the plate and did a fantastic job keeping errant pitches in front. She has a strong glove and frames pitches well, winning a few borderline strikes for her pitchers. She is built strong and has a a high ceiling of how far she can go defensively. Offensively, she had a fantastic weekend, leading the entire tournament with an astounding .818 batting average. She showed how she thrives in pressure situations with ten RBI’s and four doubles. Her power was apparent, and she displayed a great ability to drive the ball where it’s pitched, spraying the field from gap to gap. She has great contact point awareness and has some solid barrel pop. Keep your eye on this one in the future.

Jaira Yanders (2030, Altoona, IA)- Jaira Yanders of the Iowa Aries 14U CE Fire was impressive as a two-way player this weekend. On the mound, she threw 7.1 innings striking out nine batter and throwing some clutch innings for her team. Most impressive was her offensive output, hitting an impressive .615 on the weekend, driving in eight runs for her team. She has an athletic stance in the box and goes to a nicely balanced toe touch, allowing her to see the ball travel before taking her swing. She has an impressive barrel and hand path, and with her toe touch separation, was able to stay behind the ball well and drive it hard to all fields. She demonstrated great consistency in the box, being a tough opponent in the box every single at bat. She was fun to watch!

Sophie Romey (2029, Urbandale, IA)- Sophie Romey of the Iowa Aries 14U National was very impressive on the mound last weekend. In nine innings of work, she struck out 14 and only surrendered one earned run. Sophie has nice loose snap, which contributes to her incredible spin rate. She threw a mix of rise, curve, change, and drop but her riseball was the standout pitch. She got ahead with her curveball, then threw her late-breaking spinny rise for a high swing-and-miss rate. She was excellent at throwing her riseball to all levels, going up the ladder within at-bats to get the hitters to bite. Overall, she was composed on the mound and was overall impressive in the circle. She also proved to be a solid two-way player, hitting .375 on the weekend and leading the tournament with five stolen bases. Keep your eyes on this future star!

Harper Morrison (2029, Waverly, IA)- Harper Morrison of the CIK 2011’s team was one of the best two-way players out there this weekend. She competed at a high level both in the circle and in the batter’s box. On the mound, this right-handed pitcher was consistently popping close to 60mph and has a mechanically sound motion. She is explosive off the mound, has great front side resistance, and has a nice downward whip and wrist snap. She uses her glove side well, giving her motion great balance. She uses an effective mix of drop, rise, change, curve, and fastball and she was highly effective. She gets good bite on her rise ball, which was great swing and miss effectiveness. Her change-up was a great balance to her speed and she was great at making adjustments in the zone with this. She averaged over TWO strikeouts per inning, making her one of the most dominant pitchers on the weekend. Offensively, she was just as impressive, hitting a whopping .667 and driving four doubles. She showed great patience at the plate, walking three times and showed her speed by stealing three bases. She moves well on the bases and drives the ball hard to all fields. She got her barrel behind the ball well, staying short to contact and then driving through extension. This player has a very bright future ahead, so keep your eyes on her.  

Anais Rosa (2030, Dubuque, IA)- Anais Rosa of the 29/30 Texas Glory IA was a force at the plate this weekend. She had a strong presence in the box and proved to be one of the most consistent hitters on the weekend. She did a fantastic job reading pitches and having competitive at bats. She showed off her ability to use her incredibly fast hands to turn on inside pitches. She finished the weekend hitting an impressive .700 and proved to be a high-pressure clutch hitter, driving in five runs for her squad. She also showed her barrel awareness and pitch recognition skills by avoiding striking out at all this weekend in her ten plate appearances. She is a consistent hitter and was fun to watch last weekend!

Aurora Widlund (2029, Altoona, IA)- Aurora Widlund of the Iowa Aries 14U National was a two-way standout player last weekend. Offensively, this right-handed hitter has a solid swing. She generates a good amount of barrel whip in her swing and has HR power. She did a great job of driving the ball to all fields, getting most of her power hits up the middle. She finished the weekend with a .600 batting average and proved to be a consistent force in the box. On the mound she has a high spin rate and a solid off-speed pitch that is very effective. She hit her spots well and in 7.1 innings of work racked up 10 strikeouts.

Harper Rosado (2029, Ankeny, IA)- Harper Rosado of the Iowa Aries 14U National showed off at the plate this weekend. She is a strong athlete who has great power potential. She showed great discipline at the plate and had some really competitive at bats. She was able to sit on the change-up well and her hand path is fantastic. She keeps her barrel behind the ball well, keeping pulled balls fair. She drove in three runs for her squad and finished the weekend with a .571 batting average. She is a dynamic hitter who has a high ceiling and we look forward to seeing her continue to develop in the coming seasons.

Mayzie Surratt (2029, Madrid, IA)- Mayzie Surratt of the Barracuda Aces 14U Slauson was a force this weekend. On the mound, this tall and strong right-handed pitcher was dominant in the circle. She was consistently in the high 50’s to 60mph range and in 12.1 innings of work struck out 20. She used her dropball effectively as a get ahead pitch, painting the corners with it. She balanced the hard drop with her change-up, which she did a great job keeping lower in the zone, and her riseball which was a good swing-and-miss pitch. She has no fear busting lefties inside, which was impressive. She was explosive off the mound and used her long levers to generate some quality downward whip. Offensively, she was strong at the plate, hitting .455 on the weekend and driving in four runs for her squad. Keep your eyes on this one as she has a ton of talent already and a lot of room to continue to grow.

Paige Davis (2029, Cedar Falls, IA)- Paige Davis of the CIK 2011’s was a consistent force in the batter’s box this weekend. She has a strong build and provides some good pop to the lineup. She showed great patience in the box and the ability to battle in her at-bats, drawing five walks. She sat on the change-up well and did a phenomenal job keeping her barrel behind the ball instead of getting long and wrapping around it. This enabled her to drive the ball opposite field consistently. She finished the weekend with a .500 batting average and drove in six runs for her team. She is a good one to watch in the coming seasons!

Brynley Wenig (2029, Burlington, IA)- Brynley Wenig of the Southeast Iowa Swarm proved to be a next level player last weekend. Offensively this right-handed hitter showed great barrel whip and pop and the ability to drive the ball to all fields. She has an athletic stance, good separation, and overall is a consistent bat in the lineup. She has good power yet still has good command of her barrel. She finished the weekend with a .500 batting average, and she drove in three for her team. On the mound, Wenig was consistently hitting high 50’s and topping out at 61mph. She showed a curve, drop, screw, and change-up. Her drop and curve were by far her fastest pitches and her change-up had a good speed differential hitting the mid 40’s. She has a mechanically sound pitching motion, driving off the mound well to a good firm front side. We look forward to seeing her continue to develop because she shows great potential in the circle and see big things ahead for her!

Kendall Olson (2031, Clive, IA)- Kenall Olson of the Barracuda Aces 14U Slauson proved to be a consistent force behind the plate last weekend as well as in the batter’s box. Defensively, we noticed how well she handled herself behind the plate with a maturity beyond her years. She is small but uses that to her advantage as she is incredibly mobile behind the dish. She made some crazy snags of missed pitches and did a great job keeping many in front of her. She has a solid glove and frames the ball well and her communication to her pitchers and defense is very good. Offensively she proved to be someone her team could depend on, having consistent at bats, finishing the weekend batting .500. She scored four times and even stole two bases. She also showed her pop by blasting two home runs over the fence. She is very young, but she proved she can play at a high-level last weekend. She has a bright future, and we are excited to watch her continue to grow.

Taylor Priebe (2029, Nauvoo, IA)- Taylor Priebe of the Black Dragons was a force at the plate this weekend. She is built super strong and has an intimidating presence in the box. She has an athletic stance and insane power potential. She showed the ability to drive the ball to all fields, however her power is to the pull side. She generates incredibly fast bat whip and speed, which helps generate that pop. She also proved she’s a versatile player, throwing 12.2 innings for her squad, finishing the weekend with a 2.20 ERA. Overall, she will be a fun one to watch as she continues to develop her skills in the coming season. Big things ahead for her!

Autumn Kress (2029, Quasqueton, IA)- Autumn Kress of the CIK 2011’s was one of the weekend’s most impressive pitchers. She has a good tall build and uses her height to her advantage. This right-handed pitcher has a nice athletic motion that is mechanically sound and is a solid foundation to build upon. She paints the corners well and throws a really nice drop or drop/curve, especially on the outside corner to right-handed hitters. She was consistently throwing in the mid to high 50’s and proved to be a tough competitor. In 11 innings pitched, she gave up ZERO earned runs, leading the tournament. She struck out 15 batters averaging over a strikeout per inning.

Lauryn Jeffrey (2030, Cedar Rapids, IA)- Lauryn Jeffrey of the Eastern Iowa Barracudas-AK was incredibly effective at the plate for her team last weekend. She finished the weekend with .500 batting average, rocking two doubles, and tallying four RBI’s. She did a great job keeping her hands inside the ball, driving the ball hard gap to gap. She keeps her barrel behind the ball well, helping to keep pulled balls fair. She also got a lot of innings in the circle, showing off her ability to hit spots well and she did a fantastic job owning the top of the zone. She threw primarily low to mid 50’s on the weekend. Keep your eyes on this young prospect as she continues to grow and develop. She has a high ceiling and we look forward to seeing more in the future.

Lauren Hinshaw (2030, Southeast Iowa Swarm) Hinshaw batted an impressive .667 on the weekend, blasting two double and racking up an impressive 7 RBI’s. She also stole three bases and drew three walks.

Millie Wellington (2030, Black Dragons)- Wellington was outstanding at the plate hitting .667 on the weekend. She walked three times and drove in a run.

Jordan Tiedeman (2029, Iowa Aries 14U CE Fire)- Tiedeman finished the weekend with a .667 batting average and came in clutch, driving in three runs for her team. She walked three times and stole two bases as well.

Libby Berner (2029, Eastern Iowa Barracudas- AK)- Berner batted and impressive .625 and drove in three runs for her squad. She stole two bases and walked three times.

Shay Hanes (2030, Eastern Iowa Barracudas- AK)- Hanes had a great weekend at the plate, batting .556 with two doubles and three RBI’s. She also drew three walks.

Charlotte “Charlie” Eichorn (2030, Eastern Iowa Barracudas- AK)- Eichorn hit .545 last weekend, walking twice, and driving in two runs. She roped a double and five singles in 11 at bats.

Jade Land (2029, CIK 2011’s)- Land finished the weekend batting .500 using her insane speed to cause chaos. She ended with four RBI’s and scored six times. She also stole two bases.

Crystal Marcus (2028, 29/30 Texas Glory IA)- Marcus was outstanding in the box last weekend batting .571 with three RBI’s and three walks.

Ella Schlabaugh (2029, 29/30 Texas Glory IA)- Schlabaugh was outstanding last weekend, hitting .500. She showed off her versatility with three singles, one double, and one triple. She drove in an impressive six RBI’s for her team.

Linny Corzatt (2029, Southeast Iowa Swarm)- Corzatt was highly impressive last weekend, batting .556 in 11 plate appearances. She drove two doubles and a triple and knocked in five RBI’s. She also stole two bases.

Everly Inman (2029, Barracuda Aces 14U Slauson)- Inman had a great weekend at the plate, finishing with a .500 batting average. She knocked two doubles and drove in an impressive seven RBI’s.

Isabelle Brummel (2029, Iowa Aries 14U CE Fire)- Brummel was most impressive this weekend, finishing with a .583 batting average and drove in two runs. She also walked twice and stole a base.
