Nathan Hickey, C, 2021 Eligible

Hickey exploded on the scene last year, hitting .311 with four bombs over just 45 AB. The catcher comes into 2021 as the three-hitter in the loaded Gator’s lineup.

Hickey’s bat was as advertised in the opening weekend as he hit an absolute moon shot on the first pitch of the season he saw. He batted .586 with two home runs over the three-game series and was a constant force at the plate. Standing at a mature 6-foot, 210 pounds, Hickey starts from a balanced, wide base and high back elbow before initiating into a toe-tap trigger with good rhythm to his hand load. The left-handed backstop has excellent bat speed with a steep attack angle to the ball, allowing him to get easy loft before finishing with an aesthetically-pleasing one-handed finish. Hickey oozes confidence at the player and looks to do damage whenever he’s at the plate.

Although he did not get the chance to show it off, Hickey has excellent arm strength behind the plate. The sophomore catcher does have swing-and-miss to his game, but he should be one of the top-tier college bats when the 2022 draft rolls around.
