13u Ohio Valley Regional All-Tourney

PG Super25 Staff

The 2014 13U Ohio Valley Tournament had 12 teams all battling for the chance to participate in the first ever PGSuper25 National Championships in McKinney, TX.  These teams came to play and the following is a list of players that stood out for their team this past weekend at Allerton Sports Complex right next to the beautiful Kent State University Baseball Stadium.  Take it from me; we saw some really amazing pitchers and some powerful hitters from these 12 teams.  After pool play the tournament seeding was set when the Huntington Patriots from Huntington WV won their pool and only allowed 1 run which allowed them to capture the #1 overall seed going into Sunday.  Brownlee’s Lookouts took the #2 Seed winning their pool with solid pitching and some very timely hitting.  The Kentucky Baseball Club won their pool but had one bad inning allowing 3 runs in a game that was already out of hand and landing them in the #3 seed spot.  The top of the bracket was completed when the Diamond Dirtbags from Bowling Green KY upset local favorite Ohio Glaciers 5-4 in their pool game.

Bottom half of the bracket had the #5 seed Ohio Glaciers from Youngstown, OH who had lost that nail biter to the Diamond Dirtbags.  The last three in to the Championship round were #6 seed Ohio Diamond Hawks from Waterville, OH, #7 seed Manchester A’s from Akron, OH, and #8 Seed  the Northern Ohio Baseball Club from Strongsville, OH

Championship Sunday was not a normal day at all.  The Northern Ohio Baseball Club completely wrecked the day for the Huntington Patriots by pounding out 8 hits and taking the #1 Seed Huntington Patriots right out in a mercy ruled game. Brownlee’s Lookouts and the Kentucky Baseball Club Blythe 1 were on a collision course to play in the semi finals and all the while the Diamond Dirtbags and the Ohio Glaciers were playing in a back and forth affair.  The Diamond Dirtbags after giving up the lead in the 4th inning came back with an explosive 6th to take the lead for good.  The Lookouts made quick work of the Manchester A’s and the Ohio Diamond Hawks couldn’t stop the Kentucky Baseball Club Blythe 1 from scoring.

The semifinals were set with the Northern Ohio Baseball Club vs. the Diamond Dirtbags in one game and the Kentucky Baseball Club Blythe 1 vs. Brownlee’s Lookouts in the other game.  The Northern Ohio Baseball Club gave the Diamond Dirtbags all they wanted.  This was just like all the other Diamond Dirtbag games to this point.  Back and forth and back and forth there were 9 lead changes.  It was going to come down to the last at bat.  The Diamond Dirtbags outlasted the Northern Ohio Baseball Club by one run in the bottom of the 6th after time had expired.  Both teams gave their all but the Dirtbags were fortunate enough to be the last team to hit.  In the other semi final game, the first two innings looked like they were headed to a very low scoring pitching duel.  However going into the third inning the Kentucky Baseball Club Blythe 1 struck first in the top of the 3rd only to get hit right in the mouth by the Brownlee Lookouts with two of their own in the bottom of the inning.  The Kentucky Baseball Club took the lead for good with 5 in the top of the 4th and really never looked back.

The Championship Game between the Diamond Dirtbags and the Kentucky Baseball Club was all set.  Diamond Dirtbags could not get any offense going vs. the Kentucky Baseball Club Blythe 1.  This game was a little lopsided as the pitching from the Kentucky Baseball Club was very fresh and the entire Dirtbags team looked exhausted.  This game was ended after 4 innings due to the mercy rule.
