College Top 25: On the move

Kendall Rogers

Consistency is always good to see, and there's a lot of it atop the latest Perfect Game College Top 25. Top-ranked Virginia played just one game last week because of finals. And though the Cavaliers suffered a setback to Old Dominion, they remain atop the rankings for a fourth-straight week.

After the Cavaliers, the rest of the top five includes Louisiana-Lafayette, Oregon State, Florida and Florida State, which moved from No. 6 to No. 5 after sweeping Minnesota over the weekend, with previously top five LSU dropping from No. 5 to No. 10 after losing a road series to Texas A&M.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Louisville moved from No. 10 to No. 8 after another impressive week, while Oklahoma State is the biggest mover this week, vaulting from No. 17 to No. 9 after a perfect 4-0 week that included a home non-conference series sweep over Arizona State.

Other notables in the rankings include South Carolina dropping from No. 8 to No. 14 after losing a road series to Georgia, Vanderbilt moving up from No. 20 to No. 17 after a good week, and Alabama dropping from No. 14 to No. 20 after getting swept at home by red-hot Florida.

UC Santa Barbara, Texas Tech and Pepperdine dropped out of the rankings. The Gauchos have struggled the past few weeks and were swept by UC Irvine over the weekend, the Red Raiders were swept by Kansas, and Pepperdine dropped a tough series to Loyola Marymount.

Entering the rankings this week are UC Irvine, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. The Anteaters took care of the Gauchos over the weekend and have a stranglehold on the Big West title race for the time being, the Bulldogs earned their second-straight Southeastern Conference series sweep on the road against Auburn, and the Aggies are back in the rankings for the first time in a long time after taking two of three at home from LSU. The trio of teams entered the rankings at No's 21, 22 and 25, respectively.

The Perfect Game College Top 25 is released every Monday during the regular season.
