CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - After attending baseball camps at Creighton University and the University of Iowa this past summer and fall, college coaches started taking an interest in right-handed pitcher Cole McDonald, who started his recruiting process somewhat late compared to most others.

"Creighton was the first school to talk to me and say 'Hey, you probably have enough to play D-I'," recalled McDonald. "Then a couple of weeks later I went to a camp in Iowa and I hit 90-mph on the radar one time and that's what gave me the look from Iowa."

Once the top-ranked prospect in Iowa for the 2015 class started talking to the Iowa coaches his decision to take his game to the University of Iowa would get easier and easier.

"I want to say thanks to coach Heller and coach Sutherland and the rest of the coaches because they were really nice, talked to me a lot, kept in touch, and it felt like they genuinely cared," McDonald said. "That was the main reason I ended up choosing Iowa."

It also helped that the New Hampton, Iowa native has strong family ties to the university.

"My whole family is big Iowa fans," said McDonald. "That was one of the main reasons I chose them."

McDonald attended the Perfect Game Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase in Cedar Rapids, Iowa back in early February, where he impressed enough to be named to the Top Prospect List and the Top Prospect Team.

McDonald is Iowa's 6th known commit in the 2015 class and all are currently ranked in the top 500 nationally. Their 2015 class is currently ranked #36 nationally.
