HOUSTON – We might just be finding out what some teams are made of at the Houston College Classic this weekend.

Rice entered the weekend ranked No. 12 nationally, and still is viewed as the best overall team despite having a 1-1 record so far this weekend. Meanwhile, some other clubs, such as Texas, Texas Christian, Sam Houston State, Texas Tech and Houston entered the weekend, at least in some shape or form, with something to prove.

So far, teams such as Texas Tech and TCU have struggled in the tourney. The Red Raiders have been outscored 19-6 by Houston and Sam Houston State this weekend, while the Frogs have really struggled at the plate, scoring just four runs in two games against Sam Houston State and Rice.

Houston and Texas have been the opposite. The Cougars dropped a tough bout to Texas Saturday afternoon, but otherwise have played an excellent brand of baseball. Meanwhile, the Longhorns have pitched at a very high level with starting pitchers Dillon Peters and Parker French leading the way, while the offense has done just enough in key situations to get the job done.

The results on Saturday were as follows: Sam Houston State 10, Texas Tech 6 – Texas 3, Houston 2 and Rice 1, TCU 0.
