Freshman Championship up next

Matt Rodriguez

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Travel teams stacked with 2017 graduates will come from as far north as New York, as far south as Puerto Rico, and as far west as Missouri to Fort Myers for the inaugural PG WWBA Freshman World Championship in hopes of showing off their skills in front of college scouts and earning a spot in future Perfect Game rankings.

It is inevitable that many of the players who take the field at the inaugural event will find themselves on the collegiate, and maybe even the big league, stage down the road. Now is the time for many to discover what kind of untapped talent is out there.

While the event poses an excellent opportunity for individual players to put their names on the map, the ultimate goal for each of the 28 teams participating in the event is to take home the first ever WWBA Freshman World Championship trophy.

With players undiscovered and with no past history of this event, there may not be a clear-cut favorite. However, well-known organizations like FTB, Marucci Elite, SWFL and Tri-State Arsenal will be present to battle it out for a chance to be the first champion.

Colleges from around the country will have the opportunity to get their first looks at 2017 players, all of whom must remain uncommitted.

The tournament will begin on Friday, Oct. 18
and conclude with the semifinals and championship game being played on Monday, Oct. 21. The JetBlue Player Development Complex (spring training site of the Boston Red Sox) and the City of Palms Park Stadium (previous spring training site of the Boston Red Sox) will play host to the 28 participating teams.
