Hereis an early look at some of the top players from the Atlantic CoastUnderclass Showcase in Winston-Salem, NC (listed alphabetically).
2013 RHP/1B Paul Barnhill (Charlotte Country Day, NC)- Fastball up to 84 mph, good 12-6 curveball with depth with good shape. Also hit well in games.
2013 INF/RHP John Booker (Chesterfield, VA)- Two way player, fastball up to 84 with heavy sink, some upside on mound as well. Also showed ability to drive the ball at the plate, good bat whip, strong OF arm.
2014 OF/MIF DJ Burt (Fuquay-Varina HS, NC)- Most athletic player in attendence, ran a 6.67 60 yard dash, quick hands at the plate, solid arm, threw 87 from the OF and showed good range in CF.
2013 3B Trevor Courtney (IMG Academies, Bradenton, FL)- Strong body, power bat, showed bat speed, good round of BP and carried it over into games. Bat stood out.
2013 C Cully Crott (Eugene Ashley HS, Wilmington, NC)- Posted 1.91 pop time in workout, accurate throws with carry, quick bat, line drive plane.
2014 OF Storm Edwards (West Henderson HS, Hendersonville, NC)- Grabbed attention with OF arm (event best 91 mph), showed good all around ability, ran 6.95 60, hit well in games, showed good offensive tools with power potential.
2014 RHP/SS Trevor Gay (High Point Central HS, NC)- Worked 83-84, topped out at 86, good build, good arm strength, solid sweeping action on breaking ball, good feel for changeup.
2013 SS/INF Chris Hohlstein (Phillips Academy, Columbus, GA)- Impressive power, hit a deep HR in BP, blasted a liner in game that registered at 94 mph off the bat smooth load, attacks the baseball.
2014 RHP/OF Travis Holden (West Forsyth HS, Advance, NC)- Athletic build, fastball up to 84, sharp 11-5 curveball for strikes, good fading life on changeup.
2013 RHP/OF Adam Johnson (Brentwood HS, TN)- Funky deceptive delivery, top fastball velocity of the event (up to 88), pounded strike zone, good spin and depth on breaking ball. Very tough for RHH to pick up the ball.
2014 RHP/OF Tyler Johnson (Trinity Episcopal HS, Midlothian, VA)- Projectable arm and body, quick loose arm, fastball sat 83-86, curveball flashes potential, deep 11-5 break, good second pitch.
2013 OF/LHP Cameron Marshall (Cary Academy, Raleigh, NC)- Strong athletic player. Needs to refine swing but showed consistent warning track power in BP and can develop that power further with improved mechanics.
2013 OF Brett Milazzo (Carmel Catholic HS, Hawthorn Woods, IL)- Quick actions, hit everything hard in games, not overly toolsy but can hit and really knows how to play the game. Hard nosed player, good athlete, good instincts.
2013 1B/RHP Zachary Michalski (Wesleyan Christian Academy, Belews Creek, NC)- Big strong physical player, big power bat.
2013 SS/RHP Alexander Murphy (Chopticon HS, Clements, MD)- Bat stood out, power potential, hard line drive contact, good swing path. Also pitched, fastball up to 86. Big strong body, moves well for size.
2014 OF/RHP Trevor Riggs (Nansemond River HS, Suffolk, VA)- Projectable build, topped at 82, throws downhill, feel for offspeed, pitches aggressively.
2014 RHP/OF Josh Roberson (North Davidson HS, Clemmons, NC)- Projectable young pitcher, topped out at 82 with more to come. Good downhill plane, online delivery, good fade to changeup, good depth on curveball.
2013 RHP Braxton Shetley (East Davidson HS, Thomasville, NC)- Big strong build, mid 80s fastball up to 86, quick arm, good action on 75 mph curveball, feel for hard slider at 78, good sink on changeup, nice four pitch mix.
2014 1B Douglas Taylor (Fayetteville Academy, NC)- Strong power hitting 1B, moves well for size, good body control through swing, interesting young hitter to follow.
2014 LHP/OF Tim Turner (Massillon Jackson HS, Canton, OH)- pitchability lefty, topped out at 81 but impressed with solid 1-7 curveball and good feel for straight changeup.
2015 MIF/OF Cobie Vance (Pine Forest HS, Fayetteville, NC)- Quick athletic MIF actions, good bat speed, chance to develop.
2014 C Seth Wall (Georgetown HS, SC)- Strong bodied C prospect, popped a 1.84 in workout, strong at contact, drives the ball.
