PG Desert Classic Champions

    
The first annual PG Desert Classic has come to a close at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona. After 3 days and 66 games, three teams have come out on top.

14u Division Champions – Arizona Prowlers

The 7-0 rout over the AZ Titans 14u in the championship game topped of a 5-0 run through the tournament for the Prowlers. The tournament MVP went to Tyler Williams (2015 Kellis HS, Phoenix, AZ) of the AZ Prowlers. The MVPitcher award went to Dylan Muller (2014 Centennial HS, Glendale, AZ), also with the Prowlers.

16u Division Champions - All Star Baseball Academy 15u

ASBA 15u held off a 7th inning rally to capture the 16u division title. After ASBA dropped 5 runs in the 6th, the Arizona Toros scored a run in the top of the 7th to come within a run of tying the game until Tyler Herndon (2013 Mingus HS, Clarkdale, AZ) struck out the batter to end the game. Herdon was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Taking home the MVPitcher plaque was ASBA’s LHP Calvin LeBrun (2014 Sunnyslope HS, Phoenix, AZ).

18u Division Champions – All Star Baseball Academy 17u

SBA 17u squeezed past the Angels Blue in the 18u division championship to earn the trophy. The Angels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but ASBA came back with two in the fourth to take the lead for good. ASBA 17u finished 2nd in their pool to earn a spot in the playoffs and then knocked off their own 18u team to make it to the championship game. The MVP of the tournament went to ASBA’s Robert Heath (2012 Sunnyslope HS, Phoenix, AZ). Another ASBA player received some hardware when pitcher Matt Haro received the Most Valuable Pitcher award for the tournament.
