First Round All-Americans

Patrick Ebert

With the June Amateur Free Agent Draft scheduled to kick off this evening, it's likely that there will be a record number of former Aflac All-Americans selected in the first round.

Of Perfect Game's top 50 prospects eligible for this year's draft, 14 of them played on last year's squad, and 21 of the top 100. In addition, seven more players out of the top 30 prospects overall have played in previous years, spending the last two to three years at the college or junior college level.

To those that follow prospects the names are quite familiar. Gerrit Cole, Dylan Bundy, Matt Purke, Francisco Lindor, Sonny Gray, Archie Bradley, Taylor Jungmann, Blake Swihart, Alex Meyer, Daniel Norris, Brian Goodwin and Javier Baez are all alums of the All-American Classic. They represent three different years of the event, 2007, 2008 and 2010, with all of them expected to be selected in the first round of the draft.

Here is a year-by-year list of the 80 players that have participated in the All-American Classic that were selected in the first-round of the draft, dating back to 2004 (the overall pick and the year the player participated if not the previous summer is in parenthesis):
