TOP 25 PROSPECTS

1. STEVE PISCOTTY, of, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (Stanford/SO in 2011)
Advanced approach at plate for FR, stays inside ball well, power will come when fills out lanky frame; hit .289-1-24; all tools play
2. JAKE STEWART, of, Fairbanks Goldpanners (Stanford/SO)
Has all the physical ability/raw tools, but needs a lot of repetitions; excellent CF/speed, hit .232-0-6 in 59 AB, making strides at plate
3. TYLER GRIMES, ss, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (Wichita State/JR)
Game comes easy at SS, has ++ arm/range, makes highlight plays; + speed (27 SB), small frame/lacks power, needs go other way
4. PABLO BERMUDEZ, of, Mat-Su Miners (Florida International/JR)
Solid contributor at plate for league champs (.351-1-26), but power lacking, struggles middle in; excellent CF, speed plays, OK arm
5. TOM HARLAN, lhp, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Fresno State/JR)
Projectable 6-6 LHP with + upside; FB just 84-85 2 years ago, now 88-91 with life; decent breaking ball; 3-2, 4.02 for last-place team
6. CHASE McDOWELL, rhp/of, Fairbanks Goldpanners ((Rice/SO)
Rice walk-on, just scratching surface of intriguing 2-way potential; made impact on mound with athletic frame, fast arm, 92-93 FB
7. JORGE MARBAN, rhp, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (SIGNED/Rangers)
Worked 18 IP in spring at FIU, went undrafted; signed out of NBC World Series when FB 92-95, 83-84 SL became dominant pitch
8. GEOFF DAVENPORT, lhp, Mat-Su Miners (Arkansas/JR)
Advanced approach, throws 3 pitches for strikes, including ++ CU in any count; will get bigger/stronger, add velocity to 88-91 FB
9. CHAD SMITH, rhp, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (Southern California/JR)
Released from Cape Cod, but dominant in bullpen role in Alaska (1-1, 0.46, 3 SV) with 90-94 FB, hard SL with late life from ¾ slot
10. BLAKE DIETERICH, lhp, Mat-Su Miners (Georgia/SO)
Long way to go, but + upside; evolving FB only 84-88, CU mostly rolling but flashes + bite; needs + work/mechanical adjustments
11. KYLE RICHTER, lhp, Fairbanks Goldpanners (Southern California/FR)
Big LHP (6-5 and still growing) held his own as HS talent with 88-92 mph; little feel for CU/CH, but plenty of upside, + demeanor
12. PATRICK WISDOM, 3b/1b, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (St. Mary’s/SO)
League HR leader; powerful frame for 18, can ++ drive balls other way; needs better pitch recognition; adequate on both IF corners
13. TAYLOR GARRISON, rhp, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (Fresno State/JR)
Caught eye of scouts on showcase weekend; excelled in long role (2-1, 1.67) with command of 3-pitch mix (89-92 FB, hard late SL)
14. JARROD BERGGREN, of, Fairbanks Goldpanners (Northern Colorado/JR)
6-3/210 frame, talent similar to Hunter Pence; failed to go deep, but + power in there, 6.6 speed; just hitting stride when hurt knee
15. TRENT GARRISON, c, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Fresno State/JR)
Twin brother of Taylor (No. 13); solid defender with above-average arm strength; LH bat (.231-0-14), solid contact, gap power
16. RYAN CABRAL, rhp, Fairbanks Goldpanners (Southern California/SR)
Undrafted after so-so spring in pen at USC; blossomed as starter vs. wood (5-0, 2.59), 90-92 FB with cutting action, flashed + SL
17. KEVIN ROUNDTREE, c, Fairbanks Goldpanners (Southern California/JR)
Long way to go at plate (.238-0-5), especially vs LHP; excelled defensively, + intelligent approach, threw out runners at high rate
18. D.J. CRUMLICH, ss, Fairbanks Goldpanners (UC Irvine/JR)
Didn’t stand out at plate with contact approach (.231-1-14), but Gold-Glove caliber SS; excellent feet/hands, makes all routine plays
19. CHRIS SERRITELLA, 1b, Anchorage Bucs (Southern Illinois/JR)
Posted solid numbers (.304-3-15), has ++ bat speed, but very vulnerable to LHP; hands/range OK around bag, but limited to 1B
20. GARRETT WITTELS, 3b/2b, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (Florida International/JR)
Has 56-game hit streak in progress at FIU, but mixed reviews with inside-out swing, limited power; stood out in field, both at 2B/3B
21. ANDY MEE, of/rhp, Mat-Su Miners (Florida Atlantic/SR)
Played valuable role at plate (.353-1-37), on mound (4-0, 1.50, 3 SV); just a BB player, does everything well, gap power, 90-92 FB
22. BRET SCHWARTZ, ss, Mat-Su Miners (Central Missouri/JR)
League-high .420 BA a bit inflated, but played all summer with sore back; ++ scrappy/competitive, can hit/run; more 2B at next level
23. ZACH VINCEJ, ss, Anchorage Bucs (Pepperdine/SO)
Solid ball player, especially in field, but lack of physical strength/projection hinders development; ++ range at SS, arm suited for 2B
24. TREVOR HAIRGROVE, if/of, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (UC Riverside/SR)
Solid MIF defender, weak bat in spring at UCR; reversed role in summer, Pilots best bat (.304-3-18), struggled in field, moved to OF
25. RYAN GEBHARD, of, Kenai Peninsula Oilers (Missouri/JR)
No. 10 on this list in 2009, but struggled at plate in big park (.222-1-18); on-base machine (38 BB), runs well (27 SB), solid instincts
