88 Teams Set for Memorial Day Tournaments

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A total of 88 teams are scheduled to play 189 games in the 2nd Annual WWBA Florida Memorial Day Classic tournaments this weekend in Fort Myers.

Fifty-two teams are playing in the 18U bracket of the WWBA Florida Memorial Day Classic. There are 13 pools, with four teams in each pool. The 13 Pool Champs and three Wild Cards will advance to the 16-team playoffs. The Florida Pokers beat Chet Lemon’s Juice, 4-3, in the championship game of the inaugural 18U tournament a year ago.

Thirty-six teams will be competing in the 16U bracket of the tournament. There are nine pools, with four teams in each pool. The nine Pool Champs and three Wild Cards will advance to the 12-team playoffs, where the top four seeds will receive first-round byes. The West Florida Shockers beat Cyclones Baseball in the championship game of the first 16U tournament in 2009.

The tournament begins Friday night in both age groups. The championship games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Games will be played at the Red Sox 5-Plex, Terry Park, the Lee County Sports Complex, City of Palms Park, Florida Gulf Coast University, Bishop Verot High School, Cypress Lake High School, Dunbar High School, Riverdale High School and South High School.
