HS Rankings Update: May 2

Tyler Russo      Cameron McElwaney
As we’re in the heart of the first few rounds of playoffs in some states, and wrap up the regular seasons/set playoff matchups in others, much of the Top 50 has held strong as teams that have won all spring continue to do so as they make a run at state titles. While many teams will fall in the course of their state title pursuit, it will not diminish the year that many of these teams have had, which will be reflected in the national rankings. We will see members of the Top 50 from the same state match up against one another, while much of the northern half of the country should continue to bolster their resumes against the southern states for spots in the rankings.

IMG Academy (Fla.) closed out their spring with a 25-0 record and a VERY strong resume with tons of big wins, including a dominant Showdown title, and will be difficult to knock off given the totality of their performance this spring, but Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) finished off their regular season without a loss and head into the playoffs looking home to take a state title with what would be a perfect record. Bishop Gorman (Nev.) is rattling off win after win out in the four corners, Barbe (La.) still only holds 1 loss on the year as they’re moving through Louisiana’s playoffs, and Notre Dame (Calif.) looks great going into the difficult Southern Section playoffs.

While there are some minor movers throughout the rankings, we’ve got 4 new teams as well in Sickles (Fla.), Pace (Fla.), Blue Springs South (Mo.) and SA Johnson (Texas). Sickles has been in the heart of the talented group in Florida and has now rattled off 15 consecutive wins going into the playoffs, Pace is now up to 22-2 coming out of the regular season, dominating their area over the course of the spring so far, Blue Springs South has one of the best records in the Midwest region, recently knocking off top-seeded Liberty North and SA Johnson has flirted with that top tier of teams in Texas all spring and has really solidified their spot amongst Texas’ best.
