Beast of the East Notes: Days 1-2

Starting the opening pool play game on the bump for USA Prime 14U National, Mills Carrillo (2026, Wesley Chapel, Fla.) was dominant. The right-hander finished his day tossing a five-inning complete game shutout, allowing only one hit. Carrillo sat in the 85-87 range for the most part with his fastball and held the velocity through the outing. He ran the heater to both sides of the plate with sink. He worked off the pitch heavily and commanded it well. Although Carrillo didn’t need to go to his secondaries often, he also sparingly mixed in a slurvy breaking ball at 74-77 as well as a changeup at 80. He repeated his delivery well and employed a long arm swing through the back. The arm speed stood out and projects for more velocity moving forward. Another positive from the outing was his 65% strike percentage, as he was always around the zone with no big misses.
