Alpha Prime Dominates Freshman Worlds

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The tone was set right away by Alpha Prime 2025 in the championship game of the WWBA Freshman World Championship, as the squad from Livermore, Calif. hung four runs in the first frame against Canes Midwest, ultimately riding that momentum to a 7-1 victory.
 
The championship is the first for the West Coast at the Freshman Worlds, with past champs split between the states of Florida, North Carolina, Texas, New Jersey, and Georgia.
 
A hit-by-pitch and an error put two early baserunners on in the title game for Alpha Prime, and four-hole hitter Chase Bentley put the first run on the board with a single to score Aiden Aguayo. Maverek Russell then dug into the box and turned around a fastball, lining it to right field for a triple that scored two more. Elliott Webb then smacked a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Russell and pushed the score to 4-0 before starting pitcher Alec Blair even toed the rubber.
 
Blair received more run support in that first inning than he needed, as he tossed all five innings while only allowing two hits and striking out five, working around four walks on his way to a championship. To help his own cause, Blair added two hits of his own, including a three-bagger, with two runs scored and one driven in.
 
The balance in the Alpha Prime lineup stood out in the championship game, as the first eight prospects in the lineup all had a base knock. Bentley and Russell were the two with multi-RBI games, while Blair and Aguayo both scored a pair of runs.
 
Aguayo was named the MVP of the event for Alpha Prime. The Whittier, Calif. native, currently ranked inside the top-150 in the 2025 class, hit .600 for the event with a stacked-full stat line: nine hits including three doubles, six walks, 11 runs, eight RBI, and six stolen bases in eight games.
 


It was a dominant run for Alpha Prime all the way through the Freshman World Championship, as it outscored its eight opponents 77-21, with four double-digit run outputs throughout the course of the tournament.
 
Canes Midwest was just as dominant on its journey to the championship game, as it outscored its first seven opponents 61-9.
 
In his first Perfect Game event, Elijah Bennett made quite an impression for Canes Midwest, as he collected MV-Pitcher honors and an OPS over 1.000 thanks in part to a triple and a home run. The MV-Pitcher nod came thanks to his 7 2/3 innings thrown over two appearances, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 with a fastball that touched 80 mph.
