Lucas Morici (2022, Marietta, Ga.) is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed pitcher and corner infielder from Sprayberry High School in his hometown. A senior this fall, Morici was lights out on the mound this weekend as he would end the tournament leading the way on top of the pitching top performers list. Already a highly-ranked right-handed pitcher in our rankings, Morici pitched back-to-back days this weekend and was dominant for his club, Game On Vipers 2022, during their Finalist run. When all was said and done, Morici would record five punchouts over 10 2/3 innings of work to just one walk. Lucas’ best performance came on Sunday during his club’s quarterfinal bout as he would pitch a complete game, strike out four, and fill the zone with his mix almost 70% of the time. On the mound, Morici has good size and strength, and uses it down the mound from an even-tempo windup. Morici comes right at the hitter and showcases a two-piece arm action that stays hidden until release to create good deception for the hitter. Lucas navigated his assignments while working with a fastball in the mid-80s with life and a slider in the upper-70s with tilt and the ability to locate for strikes. With good pitchability and aggression, Morici was able to stay on the attack and work ahead of nearly 70% of the batters he faced Sunday on the way to the bracket play win. The performance this weekend is nothing out of the ordinary for Lucas as he has recorded 57 punchouts to just 16 walks over 54 1/3 innings of work at Perfect Game events in 2021.
