West Qualifier Scout Notes: Days 1-2

Drew Douglas (2023, Chandler, Ariz.) showed off a lot of quality traits with the bat. The Long Beach State commit utilizes a simple load with very little movement, allowing him to have advanced barrel accuracy. The swing is easy with very little effort needed to drive the ball. Douglas generates above-average power due to exceptional hip shoulder separation. There is some room to add more strength within his 6-foot, 170-pound frame which hints to more power down the line. Along with the quality swing, Douglas has an advanced approach that allows him to use the entire field well. When it’s all said and done, Douglas has the potential to possess an above-average hit and power tool.

Zachary Selfon (2023, Mahwah, N.J.) continued to find barrels and reach base frequently all weekend long. The Northwestern commit utilizes his short, compact frame well on both sides of the ball. The swing contains above-average bat speed on a short, linear bat path resulting in frequently hard hit balls. He stays balanced throughout and clears the backside well, allowing him to generate solid pull-side power despite his smaller frame. On the dirt, Selfon showed twitchy actions with the ability to range well in both directions. He has solid glove actions that allow him to catch the ball cleanly on a consistent basis. Overall, it is a solid, well-rounded profile that can contribute on both sides of the ball.
