STiKS 17U Black took down Midwest Halos 2022 Red by a score of 8-0 in their opening game on Friday night. Primary shortstop and Notre Dame commit Rory Fox (2022, Waukesha, Wis.) was on the bump for the STiKS in this one, and he certainly looked to have some real two-way potential. Fox sat 87-90 mph with heavy arm-side run, and it was about the easiest 90 mph you will ever see. He utilizes a short and compact arm action and an extremely low effort operation, but the ball just explodes out of his hand. He mowed down the competition, throwing six shutout innings with ten strikeouts, zero walks, and just two hits allowed. He was quite efficient as well, throwing 83 pitches during his outing, with 72 percent of them going for strikes. Due to the ease of his operation, the delivery is extremely simple and repeatable, and he ends in a perfectly balanced position each time. He flashed a changeup and a slider as his secondaries, but they are a bit limited right now in terms of swing-and-miss potential. He didn’t need anything other than his fastball though in this matchup, as it played well up in the zone and he generated plenty of swing-and-miss with it, moving it to each corner and getting it in on the hands of opposing hitters.
