USA Prime Takes Title at 15u WWBA

MARIETTA, Ga. – Three scoreless frames to begin the title game at the 15u WWBA National Championship gave way to a crooked four-spot for USA Prime National in the top of the fourth inning, and the Dallas-based club would go on to beat TBT National by a score of 9-3.
 
Bryce Clavon, the No. 18 prospect in the 2024 class, was 3-for-3 for USA Prime, including a double, triple, and two runs scored. Clavon was outstanding all tournament long, hitting .455 over 22 at-bats, with six extra-base hits, including three big flies, and 12 each in the runs and runs driven in categories.
 
Ben Reiland, the No. 46 overall prospect in the 2024 class, added two RBI in the championship game for USA Prime, and Chris Newstrom, at No. 12 overall, notched multiple hits out of the three-hole in the lineup.
 
Ty Southisene and Derek Curiel, hitting one and two in the USA Prime order, both added an RBI as well. Southisene, the No. 16 player in the class, and Curiel, the top dog at No. 1 overall, both hail from the western United States; Southisene from Nevada and Curiel from California.
 
Curiel was named the MVP of the tournament, as he .379 over 29 at-bats. He also walked eight times, stole seven bases, drove in 12 teammates, and scored 16 times himself.
 
Kamdyn Perry, a top-500 talent, and Matthew Champion, the No. 10 prospect in the class, held things down on the mound for USA Prime in the title game, Perry getting the nod to start and tossing 4 1/3 scoreless innings, and Champion putting the finishing touches on the championship over the last 2 2/3 innings.
 
It wasn’t unchartered territory for this USA Prime roster, finding themselves in a Perfect Game title game. At the beginning of the month in Hoover, Ala. at the 15u National Elite Championship, the squad tore through the competition, never finding themselves in a contest that was closer than a four-run differential.
 
It was more of the same during the 15u WWBA National Championship, besides one small hiccup resulting in a tie during pool play. Over the course of their 11-game stint, USA Prime scored 117 runs, and averaged more than 14 runs per contest during their playoff run.
 
Michael Yeager was awarded MV-Pitcher honors for USA Prime, as he threw nine scoreless innings over two appearances, striking out nine while only giving up four total hits and walking one.
