Perfect Game covering Premier Baseball Championships

Starting Wednesday, PGCrosschecker.com will be covering two Premier Baseball events this summer, with daily blogs and stories from the tournament sites in Missouri and Arkansas. These will consist of top performers, top prospects, and articles about the players and teams in attendance.

The Premier Baseball Junior Championship begins this Wednesday, July 22 and runs through Sunday, July 26 in Joplin, Mo., and nearby communities. Look for stories on the Perfect Game web site beginning on Wednesday and concluding on August 2nd.

The Premier Baseball Sophomore Championship starts on Wednesday, July 29 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 2 in Fayetteville, Ark., with blogs and stories beginning on the opening day of the tournament.

Perfect Game USA and Premier Baseball are joining forces to help promote youth baseball. The players in the Premier Baseball tournaments will be scouted by PG staff members, with reports posted on the Perfect Game web sites.

"Perfect Game -- they're the gold standard. Everybody recognizes what Perfect Game is," said Don Patty, a top official with Premier Baseball. "They're looking to help kids; we're looking to help kids. I just think it helps both sides. It's beneficial to both."

Premier Baseball, now in its fifth year, began with a conglomeration of youth baseball programs in Texas. They gained strength in numbers, and Premier Baseball has continued to grow. New members have to be voted into the organization, much like a conference, and non-members are allowed to play in its tournaments as well.

"It's growing," said Patty. "We've actually been turning applicants away."

There will be 36 teams in the Premier Baseball Junior Championship this week and another 40 teams in the Sophomore Championship next week.

“We have been watching the Premier League closely since they started a few years ago,” said Jerry Ford, President of Perfect Game USA. “They have done a phenomenal job and we have the greatest respect for Premier. There’s a lot of real good baseball people associated with that group and they are helping many young players.”
