16u Elite Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2

The Indiana Bulls 16U Black continued their march towards a title on Monday morning, picking up a pair of playoff wins to advance to Tuesday. Their second W of the day was a very tight affair, needing to score in 4 innings to beat Eagles Baseball by a final score of 8-7.

Maxwell Clark (2023, Franklin, Ind.) doesn’t need another rehash of his prolific offensive tools, so we’ll stick with a recap of his outing on the mound, which was both dominant and frustrating. Clark struggled with fastball command throughout the outing, throwing 47% strikes and walking 6 in his 4 innings, but the stuff is more impressive than the struggles were concerning, at least in this look. He worked up to 92 mph with his fastball but the most impressive part of the outing was his ability to pitch off of his breaking ball when the fastball command eluded him, and he was able to have a successful outing in terms of results, picking up the win. The curveball has the makings of a plus pitch, thrown in the mid-70s with sharp, two-plane bite that he can throw for strikes and get swings-and-misses over the top of with consistency. Clark might be a top-5 overall pick as a center fielder in a couple years, but the ability on the mound is still extremely loud.

Team Elite 16U Scout Team – White moved to 4-0 on Monday and secured a 3rd round playoff appearance on Tuesday morning with a 7-1 win over Excel Blue Wave 16U, 7-1. William Turner (2022, Hartselle, Ala.) got the start and the win, pitching well over 5 frames, scattering 4 hits and a pair of walks while racking up 8 strikeouts. Turner is more of a touch-and-feel lefty than a guy who overpowers, moving three pitches around the zone and keeping hitters off-balance. He worked up to 85 mph with his fastball, showing the ability to get it under the hands of right-handed hitters, and he tunnels a solid curveball and good-but-still-developing changeup out of the same slot and was able to throw all three pitches for strikes as well. Turner is committed to Auburn.
