Fort Myers Hosts 66 at Florida Select

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- As the Gulf Coast weather begins to heat up this summer, competition will sizzle this weekend as Perfect Game is set to host the 2021 Florida Select Championship. JetBlue Park and surrounding Fort Myers area ballparks will be home to 66 teams from Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico for the Championship, spanning from June 12-15.
 
The Championship is Perfect Game’s second-biggest tournament in Fort Myers so far this summer season, showcasing four age groups this weekend. The tournament will feature 10 teams at the 18u level, 15 teams at the 17u level, 25 teams at the 16u level, and 16 teams at the 15u level. Among the field, some of the nation’s top-ranked players will be showing off their skills this weekend.
 
At the 18u level, the Siege 18u Scout Team looks to their reign over the competition in South Florida. The Greenacres, Fla.-based squad comes into the Championship fresh off a dominant title run in last weekend’s 18u PG BCS National Championship Qualifier, where they put up 29 unanswered runs in the tournament’s semifinal and championship bouts. Siege will bolster their roster for the Championship, adding top-250 ranked left-hander Ashe Ammerriaan, Florida’s third-ranked lefty pitcher in the 2021 class, to their already stacked rotation. Along with Ammerriaan, Siege brings back top-500 players in the 2021 class Bryant Colon (Seminole State College commit) and Thomas Digiorgio (Catholic University commit), as well as Qualifier MVP David Bauer and MV-Pitcher Santiago Blanco montes, who were all key factors in last weekend’s victory.
 
However, Siege will face some fierce competition in the Championship from SWFL 18u. The local Fort Myers-based team features a trio of 2022 Florida Gulf Coast commits in Eddie Boe Rodriguez, Logan Smith and Josiah Velazquez, as well as 10 2021 top-500 players, including Charleston Southern commits Ryan Waldschmidt and Corey Braun. SWFL also brings up some future stars from the 2023 class for the Championship, as Alabama commit Jake Mueller and Florida commit Hayden Yost, both top-500 players in their class, hope to provide a youthful spark for SWFL.
 
SWFL looks to make a splash at the 17u level as well, as their SWFL 2022 Nation and SWFL 2022 Elite teams feature some big-time bats. Nation will feature three 2022 top-1000 players in Logan Waldschmidt, Jake D’Altrui (Flagler College commit) and CJ Bussell. Meanwhile, Elite counters with two 2022 top-1000 players as well in Jean Cuello and Jackson Turner. 
 
Another 17u standout to look for is 2022 top-1000 ranked Bryce Genton, who will lead Victus Elite Fl 17u in breaking through the SWFL stronghold at the top of the table.
 
The 16u level features another face-off between two incredibly talented squads in Gamblers Elite 2023 and the Five Star Outlaws 2023. The Palm Beach Gardens-based Gamblers will be led by the class of 2023’s 96th-ranked player Zaid Diaz, who is also Florida’s third-ranked outfielder in the class. Joining him is 102nd-ranked Miami commit Christopher Diaz, along with Florida Gulf Coast commit Allen Hernandez and South Florida commit Boston Flannery, both top-500 players in the 2023 class. The Miami Lakes-based Outlaws feature a slew of 2023 and 2024 talent, headlined by 2023 top-200 Florida State commit David Davila. Behind Davila are eight top 2023 top-500 players, including Miami commits Antonio Jimenez and Keanu Rodriguez. The Outlaws also bring up Gian De Castro and Alonzo Alexander Jr, who rank in the top-250 of the 2024 class. 
 
Outside of the Gamblers and Outlaws, Oakley Spikes’ Emmanuel Lantigua will look to turn heads against older competition. The 79th ranked player in the class of 2025 will hope to give his team a push against the more experienced rosters.
 
At the 15u level, Team Dynasty looks to lead the pack among a group of young talented squads. After posting a +25 run differential in the 2021 PG 15u East Memorial Day Classic, the Boca Raton-based program will lean on Joshua Haad, the 84th-ranked player in the class of 2024 and the third-ranked right-handed pitcher in Florida, to continue to shut down opposing bats. Helping out Haad will be Johnathan Silva, who ranked just outside the top-250 in the 2024 class. Looking to fend off Dynasty will be Florida International commit Roberto Barreto and Arbelo Baseball, as well as Riley Luft, who ranks just outside of the top-300 in the 2024 class, and Tempo Baseball 2024.
 
Each team will play four pool play games, with playoffs beginning at 10:15 AM on Monday based on pool play performance, with championships taking place the following day. The championships for the 18u and 16u divisions will take place at JetBlue Park, while the title games for the 15u and 17u levels will take place at CenturyLink Sports Complex.
