HS Rankings Update: May 11

High School playoffs being underway in a ton of states means the end of the season for some teams, and we saw upsets across the country over the last week, which brought some shakeups to the Top 50. Buford (Ga.) shockingly lost their first two games of the year, bringing their historic season to an end earlier than expected, which allowed IMG Academy (Fla.) to move back into the top spot for the time being. Barbe (La.) continues to push through their playoffs, which brings them to their highest ranking of the spring at No. 2, while Thousand Oaks (Calif.), OLSM (Mich.) and Buford round out the rest of the top-five.

Some more movement up throughout the rest of the rankings as Reagan (Texas) and Orange Lutheran (Calif.) moved up a couple spots to No. 12 and No. 13, respectively, while Doral Academy (Fla.), Bishop Gorman (Nev.), Friendswood (Texas), JSerra (Calif.) and Phillips Academy (Mass.) all saw healthy jumps within the top half of the rankings. Sam Houston (La.) jumped up a bit and lines up against formerly-mentioned Barbe in the playoffs this week, which is a rematch of earlier this season where the teams split, while Phenix City (Ala.) and Auburn (Ala.) also match up in the playoffs this week bringing an atmosphere to the state semifinals in Alabama.

Just a few new teams join the rankings this week as Pope (Ga.), who took down Buford and sits a couple series wins away from a state title, checks in at No. 44, while fellow Georgia squad Houston County (Ga.) comes in a couple spots behind them at No. 46 after being in the rankings earlier this season and making a deep run in their playoff bracket. The Hun (N.J.) is the last team to make an entrance as they bring some more Northeast flavor to the Top 50 after putting together some good wins over teams in their region with a talented roster up and down.
