Carolina Elite Scout Notes: Day 1 & 2

Day 1 Recap

Macon Leppert (2025, Bythewood, S.C.), a 6-foot-1 catcher, was in command of his team and pitching staff, throwing out a runner in the top of the third inning on a perfect throw to second base. Playing for the Carolina Yankees, he went 2-for-3 with one RBI against Drypond in the opening game of the 14u Carolina Elite Championship. The Blythewood, S.C. native did a great job offensively and defensively with good baseball IQ.


Jackson Toney (2025, Kings Mountain, N.C.), a 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher, came in relief in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs and two on and proceeded to strike out the hitter to end the inning. Toney had great command of his fastball, topping 79 mph with a mid- to upper-60s curveball. The Kings Mountain, N.C. native, who pitches for the Carolina Yankees, was on point going 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.




Tyler Baird (2025, Cornelius, N.C.), a 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher and third baseman, plays for the Carolina Yankees and came in the game during a tough spot. With one out and the tying run on, he struck out the first batter then got the last out on a fly ball to center. Baird was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with one walk and one RBI. The Cornelius, N.C. native has a fastball that topped 79 mph and mixed in a good breaking ball that sat in the upper-60s.
 

Dominic Robinson (2025, Denver, N.C.), a 6-foot-1 catcher, plays for Drypond and came up big for his team tonight. In the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs and down one run, Robinson crashed a double in the right-center gap for a walk-off double. The native of Denver, N.C. did a great job at the plate handling the bat and finished the day going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
 

Paul Harrell (2025, Raleigh, N.C.), a 5-foot-11 outfielder, plays for the TPA 14u Black and was very patient at the plate waiting for his pitch to hit and didn't miss it. The native of Raleigh, N.C. got the scoring started in the top of the first inning, ripping a line drive double down the left field line, scoring one run. Later in the game, he also ripped another double scoring one more run, finishing the day going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Heath Craver (2025, Kernersville, N.C.) is a 5-foot-9 right-handed pitcher playing for the Dimaria Baseball Academy who was spot on from the start of the game, allowing no hits. Craver’s fastball was sitting in the lower-80s topping 83 while striking out seven in four innings of work. The native of Kernersville, N.C. pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the second inning with a three-pitch strikeout to end the inning. 
 
Joseph Mittiga (2026, Suwanee, Ga.) is a 6-foot right-handed pitcher playing for the Carolina Elite 14u National who was perfect in the early game, allowing no hits or walks and went five innings with four strikeouts. The native of Suwanee, Ga. had a great feel for his pitches all game with his fastball topping 80 mph and mixed in a good breaking ball that kept the hitters off-balance all game. 

Donavan Jeffrey (2025, Chester, Va.) is a 6-foot-2 first baseman playing for the Carolina Elite 14u National and he was on fire at the plate today. The native of Chester, Va. was a RBI machine today, collecting his first two RBI in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning ripping a ball down right field scoring two. He finished the day going 2-for-3 with three RBI again the H.G. Baseball for the 9-0 win.


Zach Cartrette (2025, Siler City, N.C.) is a 6-foot right-handed pitcher playing for the 5 Star Carolina 14u who was unhittable in his outing today, showing great command of the strike zone and kept the hitters off-balance all game. The native of Siler City, N.C. has a fastball that was sitting in the mid-70s and a curveball in the low-60s, finishing the day going 3 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.
