Kumar Rocker, RHP, Vanderbilt

Rocker is a 6-foot-5, 245-pound ace with a very projectable future. He is currently ranked the No. 4 prospect for the 2021 draft by Perfect Game. He starts up tall and slightly diagonal from the hitter with a high knee lift, landing slightly open. He has a quick, long down-and-back arm action and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. Rocker pitches with such intensity it can be felt from the stands. He works quickly, commands the strike zone and gets ahead early in the count often. He loads into his backside well and gets downhill easy. He has a lot of arm whip and is very explosive off the mound, as he sat 95-97 mph.

In Friday's outing against Mississippi, Rocker was dealing, as he threw a complete nine-inning game and only allowed one run in the first inning. He started the game giving up a leadoff double to Rowdy Jordan and then settled in. Rocker occasionally left the ball up, but Mississippi State was not able to make solid contact. Kumar struck out eight batters, hit a batter, and gave up three hits. He mixed his pitches well and had good command. Rocker had all three pitches working for him in tonight game. Towards the fourth inning he started taking some off his fastball and had the Mississippi State hitters off balance. Kumar’s last two outings were not the best, but tonight he came out ready to do damage. Regardless, he is still one of the most talked about pitchers in all of college baseball. He has something special and his presence is felt whenever he is on that mound.
